Position Summary:
This job is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities and functions for the assigned team. Key responsibilities include delegating work to team members, supervising work processes, providing informal leadership of sub teams or technology silos, managing on call and support schedules, and providing leadership, mentorship, and direction to team members. Job expectations include solving complex technical and analytical issues and effectively communicating results to senior management and Line of Business partners. Experienced Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator with strong expertise in planning, designing, development, and implementation of complex database solutions, often leveraging new technologies. Serve as subject matter expert. Manages multiple complex projects and lead activities of a team related to special initiatives or operations. Adept at optimizing database performance, ensuring high availability, and supporting mission-critical applications in enterprise environments.
Responsibilities:
- Manages and prioritizes multiple tasks and assignments for the team including tracking tasks and tickets in system(s) of record, ensuring enterprise service level agreements are met, and participating in defect, incident, problem, and change review meetings and release activities
- Provides point of escalation for team members, peers, and partner teams, and shares the leadership Point of Contact for triage of high priority incidents or consulting engagements
- Performs all responsibilities of team members from applicable teams
- Works with appropriate teams to ensure alerts, monitoring, dashboards, and processes are established appropriately for new projects and initiatives
- Participates and helps with resource interviews and onboarding processes
- Performs access reviews, conducts compliance activities, and serves as a delegate for administrative processes
- Creates the on call rotation schedule and ensures support for off hours, weekends, and release windows
- Manages the stability, resiliency, reliability, and performance of a wide array of supported systems
- Optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing strategies, and execution plan analysis.
- Monitor system performance and conduct capacity planning to support growing workloads.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database performance issues, replication errors, and production incidents, ensuring minimal downtime.

- Implement and manage security controls, including authentication, authorization, and encryption. Performs access reviews, conducts audit and compliance activities.
- Work with appropriate teams to ensure alerts, monitoring, dashboards, and processes are implemented appropriately for new projects and initiatives
- Develop and maintain automation scripts using Python and Shell scripting to streamline database maintenance, backups, and monitoring.
- Perform database upgrades, migrations, and cluster expansions with minimal impact on production systems.
- Collaborate with application and DevOps teams to support database-related requirements, deployments, and troubleshooting.
Required Qualifications
- 10 years of job-related experience required.
- Strong experience managing and supporting large-scale, enterprise-wide SQL Server environments in complex, high-availability production settings.
- Deep understanding of Microsoft Windows Server operating systems, including administration, configuration, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
- Proven expertise in SQL Server performance tuning, including query optimization, indexing strategies, resource management, and database health monitoring.
- Strong knowledge of database security best practices, including access controls, encryption, vulnerability management, auditing, and regulatory compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable, and highly available database solutions that support critical business operations.
Desired Qualifications
- Financial industry experience required.
- Proficiency with Linux administration and scripting
- Powershell or Python programming knowledge.
- Cloud experience including Microsoft SQL Server on Microsoft Azure
