Job Description: This job is responsible for infrastructure tool/service designs within technical domains in accordance with architectural governance, standards and policies. Key responsibilities include facilitating deployment of tools/services by leading others in solution development, maintenance of templates, playbooks and automation used during implementation. Job expectations include demonstrating expertise within technical domains, decomposing issues or objectives into work units, advancing efficient solution delivery practices, and promoting exceptional design, engineering and organizational practices.
Responsibilities:
- Engineers and operates network solutions supporting mainframe TCP/IP and SNA/APPN-based system integrations.
- Optimizes high-availability connectivity for business-critical, high-velocity transactions and batch-processing systems.
- Leads modernization of mainframe network architectures, including improvements in observability and telemetry.
- Advances automation and AI-assisted operations to reduce manual effort, improve consistency, and enhance network reliability.
- Diagnoses and resolves complex issues across routing, switching, firewalls, load balancers, and mainframe network stacks.
- Continuously improves network solutions to meet performance, capacity, resiliency, and cybersecurity compliance standards.
- Confirms that application and business requirements have been translated into technical definitions, reference models, blueprints, and playbooks to guide development and integration of technology solutions
- Contributes to the creation/selection of functional and non-functional product evaluation requirements within and across domains
- Reviews and may develop software solutions to address manual and repeatable work or inefficient processes
- Reviews and guides the evaluation of reference models, blueprints, playbooks and the execution of on-site evaluations of third-party products being considered for firm adoption
- Mentors and assists Infrastructure resources on infrastructure service along with application integration validation methods and tools to ensure that technology solutions comply with enterprise system design and engineering standards
- Promotes an inclusive and healthy working environment and help to resolve organizational impediments/blockers
Job Description / Position Summary
- Provide technical engineering and operational support for the Mainframe Services z/OS platform, including operating system support, systems programming, and data center capabilities.
- Design, develop, and implement assigned systems engineering solutions while completing complex technical and analytical tasks with limited oversight.
- Serve as a seasoned technical resource and individual contributor; provide technical direction for special initiatives and operational activities without direct-report responsibility.
- Perform problem determination, root-cause analysis, and resolution for z/OS operating system and subsystem issues.
- Install, configure, test, maintain, upgrade, and support z/OS and associated system software on assigned environments.
- Provide system-level support for multi-user operating systems and related hardware and software tools, ensuring stability, availability, and recoverability.
- Evaluate existing and proposed systems, analyze technical information, draw sound conclusions, and recommend practical solutions.
- Identify opportunities to optimize mainframe resources, improve system performance, and strengthen operational efficiency.
- Research and plan hardware and software changes, including interfaces and dependencies with the operating system.
- Collaborate with networking, storage, security, application, and other technical teams to ensure system connectivity, compatibility, and reliable integration.
- Create and maintain accurate system, configuration, operational, and troubleshooting documentation.
- Assess current and emerging technologies and recommend solutions that align with business and platform requirements.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated working knowledge of the IBM z/OS operating system, including system control, architecture, processing logic, and RACF security.
- Hands-on experience supporting IBM z/OS system and subsystem software in large-scale, globally deployed environments.
- Proven ability to develop and enhance tools, standards, and methodologies used to manage enterprise z/OS environments.
- Advanced problem-determination skills, including issue analysis, root-cause identification, and timely resolution.
- Extensive knowledge of IBM zEnterprise server hardware and supporting data center facilities.
- Experience installing and servicing z/OS software using z/OSMF and SMP/E.
- Experience working with IBM electronic support resources, including IBMLINK.
- Subject-matter expertise in mainframe systems programming, with the ability to provide technical leadership and guidance.
- Experience supporting z/OS 3.1 environments running JES2.
- Proficiency with diagnostic and performance tools, including IPCS, RMF, MICS, SMF, Debug Tool, SLIP, and Splunk.
- Programming experience with REXX and IBM High Level Assembler.
- Hands-on RACF administration and security support experience.
- Experience defining and maintaining mainframe hardware configurations using HCD.
Desired Skills
- Experience supporting major z/OS subsystems and middleware, including CICS, Db2, IMS, and IBM MQ.
- Experience with BMC and Broadcom mainframe software products.
- Strong technical writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and maintainable documentation.
