Role Description:

Our Trading Assistant teams supports our sales and/or trading desks across all asset classes. They are notably responsible for trade capture and resolving trade discrepancies. The team also liaises between trading, trade support, sales, counterparties, counterparty credit, operations, and compliance. This function is also involved in the introduction and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) of new initiatives, systems, and process improvements to increase efficiency and enhance controls. This role requires product knowledge of financial instruments relevant to the area supported and across related asset classes.

As a Trading Assistant, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the financial markets and contribute to the success of the trading desk. The role will entail direct cooperation with the trading desk as well as key stakeholders inside and outside of the franchise.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting the trading team in trade lifecycle events across the Energy, Index and Metals desks, including confirming transactions, and managing documentation
  • Liaising with trading and sales, clients, vendors, and stakeholders to facilitate trade transactions and resolve inquires promptly
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date trading records, organizing trade-related documents, and generating reports as required
  • Supporting trade capture and resolving trade discrepancies. Participates in the introduction and UAT of new initiatives, systems, and process improvements to increase efficiency and enhance controls. Handles ad hoc requests from clients and the desk
  • Assisting the trading team with risk investigation and break resolution

What we are looking for:

  • Knowledge of commodities products and financial derivative instruments. An understanding of the factors that influence commodity prices and market dynamics
  • Familiarity with documentation and other requirements (regulatory, credit, AML, static data needs) for trading commodity products
  • Excellent attention to detail is crucial in trade execution, documentation and maintaining accurate records
  • Strong sense of urgency with ability to multi-task heavily
  • Excellent analytical, quantitative and problem solving skills are required
  • Familiarity with trade capture, client onboarding, and credit risk systems a plus
  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent experience)

  • Prior trading floor or operations experience
  • Be a “doer” as well as a “thinker” and demonstrate an ability to drive projects / tasks to completion
  • Self-starter with outstanding problem-solving skills. Excels at ‘getting things done’ with minimal direction.
  • Strong operational processing and risk control skills including the ability to build well-controlled spreadsheets and source appropriate and meaningful data
  • Be enthusiastic, keen to learn and quick to gain an understanding of complex issues and concepts
  • Take personal responsibility for delivering high quality work and have a track record of outperformance and delivery
  • Be able to design and produce insightful regular reports and drive continuous improvement in these reports
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, team-oriented environment – both work closely with senior members of the team and work independently
  • Ability to grow and develop into a trading role
