Job Description
The Wholesale Credit organization is responsible for structuring and underwriting debt financing solutions for middle market businesses. As a core member of the client team, Wholesale Credit partners with groups including Commercial Banking, Investment Banking, Syndicated Finance, Risk Management, Treasury Management, and Global Markets to drive revenue growth while maintaining appropriate risk disciplines specific to the commercial credit portfolio. The Commercial Credit Underwriter reports to the Commercial Credit Manager and partners closely with Credit Officers and Analysts.
Responsibilities
The Commercial Credit Underwriter is responsible for:
Underwriting and structuring of straightforward and complex credit transactions with minimal oversight from the Credit Officer (CO)/Commercial Credit Manager (CCM)
Leading the credit approval process with assistance from the CCM as needed for clients without CO coverage and is an active participant with the CO in credit approval process for complex clients/transactions
Leading the documentation and closing for straightforward credit transactions and has an active role with the CO in documentation and closing for complex transactions
Providing ongoing management and primary accountability for all monitoring and maintenance activities on an assigned portfolio, including a higher composition of complex client relationships
Monitoring clients operating performance and financial condition to proactively identify issues and opportunities
Delivering financial, industry, economic and other analysis to facilitate decision making, while also ensuring adherence to credit policies, guidelines, and applicable regulatory requirements
Providing ongoing coaching and support to other Credit team members
Required Skills
BS/BA degree preferred
Post graduate degree (CPA, CFA, MBA, etc.) preferred
5+ years of solid experience in financial analysis, structuring, middle market underwriting and portfolio management
Strong analytical and technical skills, including financial accounting, modeling and loan structuring
Strong communication skills
Demonstrates strong critical thinking
Able to work in a team and independently
Strong attention to detail and superior organizational and task management skills
Self-motivated, positive attitude, and high energy are a must
Professional designations being preferred (e.g. CFA, MBA)
