Job Description:
This job is responsible for defining an architectural vision and solution aligned to the enterprise architecture strategy, technology, and platform choices. Key responsibilities include describing the solution intent/associated operating environment, evaluating system impacts, determining the primary systems/sub-systems and their interfaces, and assisting with end-to-end solution design. Job expectations include defining non-functional requirements/architectural runway to support new epics/features and ensuring solutions are fit for purpose by working with stakeholders and service providers.

The Enterprise Architecture team has an opportunity for a motivated and experienced individual. The Architect will support the Technical Architecture Domain across the enterprise.

The Architect will facilitate the creation and ongoing maintenance of the enterprise technical capability model along with the aligned blueprints (strategies). The role requires an extensive technical and architectural background with excellent communication skills and organizational agility. This person will partner with leaders and organizations across the enterprise to drive adoption and adherence to the processes and controls supporting the technical domain across the enterprise.  

The successful candidate will play a key role within the team. The candidate will be expected to govern a broad portfolio and be a key influencer of strategic technology spend. 

Responsibilities:

  • Consults with the business and operations to identify and understand challenges and opportunities to improve the use and effectiveness of technology, find creative solutions through knowledge of the domain, practical experiments, and Proof of Concepts, and aligns the solution intent and architectural vision to an evolving backlog of technology change
  • Works with product management and other stakeholders to plan and prioritize technology focused backlog items for the architecture runway to enable business epics/features
  • Performs design and code reviews to ensure all non-functional requirements for a solution are sufficiently met (for example, security, performance, maintainability, scalability, usability, and reliability)
  • Leads rapid shaping of a high level architecture with details filled in with emerging business requirements and ensures architecture is flexible, modular, and designed to adapt easily
  • Educates team members on the technology practices, standardization strategies, and best practices to create innovative solutions
  • Clarifies the architecture and assists with system design for the development teams to support implementation and provides solution options to resolve any architectural impediments
  • Utilizes the defined best practices, templates, and documentation to create architectural designs and suggests improvements to best practices and templates
  • Responsible for facilitating the creation and maintenance of the enterprise technical capability.
  • Will partner with the CIO architecture leads across the enterprise to ensure technical domain owners are aligned to all technical domains.
  • Supports and coaches the technical domain owners in the creation and maintenance of technical domain blueprints.
  • Works with the technology product governance team to keep in alignment the technical capability model and the technical domain owners in the technical product approval flow.
  • Assists in the facilitation of the Technical Architecture Steering Board.
  • Active participant in all other Architecture Steering Boards reviewing requests to ensure compliance with the defined technical blueprints.
  • Contributes to best practices, standard templates, and the architecture roadmap for defined domains.
  • Contributes to the creation of the architecture roadmap of defined domains (Business, Application, Data and Technology) in support of the product roadmap.
  • Provides high level support across the technical domain and facilitates deeper interaction with the appropriate domain owners.
  • Participates in design reviews as necessary to address technical architecture questions and concerns.
  • Supports the Principal Engineer as needed to select the technology stacks needed for solutions and may help facilitate the selection of preferred technology products.
  • Supports the implementation of new EARC approval process

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. or M.S. in computer science/ related degree or equivalent experience
  • Extensive experience with enterprise-level technology strategy in an architecture organization (preferably 10+ years IT and 5+ years architecture)
  • Experience of a large-scale organization preferably Financial Services will be expected demonstrating appropriate contextual knowledge (ideally 5+ years within Bank of America)

Desired Qualifications:

  •  Application development knowledge and experience (Enterprise Applications, distributed services, design, analysis)
  • Certification or extensive experience in industry best practices in architectural methodologies and standards (e.g. UML, BPMN, TOGAF, Zachman)
  • Architecture, quality & productivity methodologies (e.g. Six Sigma, TQM, CMM, etc…)
  •  Modern application development and deployment (Automated Testing, Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery)
  • Broad based IT knowledge and experience (hardware, software, middleware, databases)
  • Deep Knowledge of Financial Services
  • Leadership, Communication and Relationship Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with senior levels of management
  • Understand and empathize with the key challenges faced by sponsors and stakeholders
  • Manage senior stakeholder expectations and build trust relationships
  • Provide strategic vision based on balanced Risk, Financial, Process, and Resource factors
  • Interpret business needs and promoting innovative technology solutions
  • Support governance and oversight processes for managing alignment of change to strategic goals
  • Translate complex concepts into multiple architectural “views” aimed at varying audiences
  • Work effectively in a matrix organization with teams of architects, developers and business partners with minimal supervision
  • Express ideas verbally and in writing to effectively communicate with and influence teammates, technology partners, business leaders and executives
