Job Description:
Extends credit to and monitors loan portfolios of custom mortgage ultra high net worth clients. Works closely with private banking relationship managers in providing custom mortgage solutions to meet the client’s requirements or in reviewing credit standards. Possesses some loan approval authority. Three to five plus years of credit experience. Performs all underwriting tasks for custom mortgage loan requests to ultra high net worth clients of Global Wealth and Investment Management (GWIM), which includes Private Wealth Management and Merrill. This position may be responsible for the provision of residential mortgage loans, and as such, is subject to SAFE Act registration requirements. Pursuant to the SAFE Act requirements, all employees engaged in residential mortgage loan originations must register with the federal registry system and remain in good standing. Since this position requires SAFE Act registration, employees are required to register and to submit to the required SAFE Act background check. Failure to obtain and/or maintain SAFE Act registration may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
Collaborates with client teams and credit partners to analyze personal financial statements such as balance sheets, income statements, tax returns, and liquidity statements. Prepares customized credit approval packages, approval memos, and other standard documents, and manages the documentation process to ensure timely loan booking. The ideal candidate can analyze risks, identify mitigants, recommend risk ratings, exposure strategies, credit structures, and sponsor recommendations throughout the approval process. This role interfaces with client teams, risk management, residential real estate credit specialists, fulfillment, servicing, and legal partners to support the timely delivery of credit solutions.
Responsibilities:
Financial Analysis Analyze and spread complex personal financial information using advanced Excel workbooks.
Risk Assessment Identify potential risks and mitigants; escalate issues to the appropriate approver for resolution.
Deal Management Manage multiple transactions simultaneously throughout the loan lifecycle, from application to booking.
Cross-Functional Communication Regularly communicate and collaborate with partners across multiple lines of business to ensure alignment and timely execution.
Required Qualifications
3+ years of commercial or ultra-high-net-worth/complex client credit experience.
Strong familiarity with personal tax returns and financial statements.
Ability to analyze complex cash flows involving multiple income streams.
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or Economics.
Formal credit training at a major U.S. financial institution.
Custom or Commercial underwriting experience
