Attorney - Emerging Technology

Job Description:

The Bank of America Technology Legal team, which supports the bank’s Global Technology organization, is seeking a talented, versatile and dynamic technology attorney to provide strategic legal advice on a broad range of emerging technologies, such as quantum computing , edge computing, cloud and on-demand computing, RPA, data governance and analytics, 5G, artificial intelligence, microservices architecture, and DLT/ block chain.  We are looking for an attorney with initiative and drive who can handle a high volume of varied and complex legal work at the intersection of tech and finance to support many of the company’s most innovative and cutting edge initiatives, including new products and services, acquisition of technology services, research and development, and external partnerships and collaborations. The successful candidate will be skilled at transactional, regulatory, and advisory work that is often without precedent and requires a deep understanding of emerging technologies and their impact on the company, its customers and clients.

Responsibilities include:

•               Counseling clients concerning legal issues related to the development, adoption and use of cutting-edge technology.

•               Assessing and mitigating potential risks to Bank of America from emerging technology.

•               Ensuring that all emerging technology deployments are legally sound and comply with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

•               Updating the business on relevant legal developments in the Fintech and emerging technology sectors.

•               Partnering with business, regulatory, and government relations stakeholders to engage, educate, and help guide regulatory and industry policy globally related to emerging technologies.

•               Providing advice and supporting the development of products and services utilizing innovative technologies; structuring engagements with Universities engaging in cutting-edge, emerging technology-related research.

•               Providing strategic business and legal advice to develop a comprehensive, long-term approach to quantum computing, edge computing, artificial intelligence, models, algorithms, machine learning and other emerging technologies.

REQUIRED Skills

•               Juris Doctor from an accredited law school

•               Active member in good standing of at least one state bar

•               At least 7 years of experience at a law firm and/or in-house legal department of a large technology company, large bank, regulator or other financial services company

DESIRED Skills

•               A deep understanding of and strong interest in emerging technology solutions and applications and a commitment to continual learning in this fast-moving domain.

•               Familiarity with global regulatory issues relevant to the use of technology in financial services.

•               Demonstrating sound judgment even in novel situations, and understand business goals in a way that helps the business evaluate risk effectively and provide practical legal advice.

•               Ability to prioritize work, effectively manage many issues at one time, and interact effectively with personnel in various roles and levels across the organization.

•               A strong record of being an effective team player dedicated to collective successes. The ability to promote cooperation and solve problems in a timely, creative, and professional manner.

•               Presenting in front of stakeholders and communicating complex legal concepts in a clear and simple way that fosters trust and respect.
