Job Title: Attorney - Emerging Markets Primary and Secondary Loans

The Legal team currently have an opening available for an Attorney - Emerging Markets Primary and Secondary Loans. The team is located in London and is a small and friendly team which consists of 9 Attorneys and additional Legal Contractors who support Credit, Securitisations and Emerging Markets in EMEA.  It is a front line role with daily exposure to the line of business as well as to other control functions. It is a complex area which allows exposure to complex legal issues and structures.

This role is to be the sole Attorney supporting the EU emerging markets loan, therefore requires an emerging market specialist who is familiar with the challenges of emerging markets legal systems as well as market practice for loan documentation. The emerging market loan business involves complex legal and reputational risks due to the nature of emerging markets which requires significant senior legal support. The business often has time-sensitive transactions that require a dedicated attorney being available to handle them.

The successful candidate will need to be English or US law qualified and  have the relevant product experience in primary loan origination and secondary loan trading but will also need to be able to thrive in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal representation and support for the emerging markets loan business (part of the EU Credit Trading Desk) in relation to loan origination and secondary loan trading businesses

  • Draft, review, negotiate and advise on emerging markets syndicated and bilateral loan agreements and ancillary documentation (both origination and work outs)

  • Support the desk in relation to secondary market trading issues for emerging markets loans.

  • Act as legal contact for MENA region leadership council across product

  • Advise on EU/UK regulation affecting the emerging markets loan business

  • Advise the business and internal stakeholder group on LIBOR transition with respect to the emerging markets loan business

  • Work with attorneys in other regions as well as compliance, risk, credit and other internal stakeholders to support the emerging markets loan business

  • Coordinate with outside counsel on regulatory, enforcement, and general corporate matters relating to the emerging markets loan business interest rate derivatives business
