The Team:

The European Rates Strategy team at Bank of America is consistently #1-ranked (in Extel/II surveys) and is part of the Global FX and Rates Strategy team which includes 25+ analysts spread across London, New York, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Sidney. The team combines top-down macro views with bottom-up market structure analysis to deliver thematic and timely insights on EUR and UK rates, with actionable trade recommendations. Products covered include European Govt bonds, Supranationals and agency bonds, inflation products, front-end rates & basis, futures, swaps, and swaptions. The team collaborates extensively with research colleagues in other teams (eg. economists, FX and credit strategists), allowing the development of views that rely on macro factors, contrasting regional differences, spill-over effects across products, and/or regulatory developments. Members routinely engage with global institutional clients, helping BofA establish thought leadership in rates products globally.

Role Description:

A unique London-based, client-facing role in the European Rates Strategy team, within Global Research at BofA.

The successful candidate will be working with the global FX and Rates strategy teams and Macroeconomic research to produce detailed analysis of European rates and bond markets, with actionable trade recommendations.

The role also involves internal engagement with sales and trading teams, as well as external exposure to global institutional clients. 

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will contribute to the team’s high-frequency publications on European rates, as well as ad-hoc thematic pieces offering timely insights on market developments and policy shifts. They will collaborate closely with global FX and rates strategy colleagues to integrate cross-asset and international perspectives, transforming research into actionable trade ideas that support the local business and enhance client engagement. A key responsibility will be to develop a deep expertise in a specific rates product, becoming the lead researcher and primary contact for institutional clients and internal stakeholders. The role also involves maintaining and enhancing analytical models and databases. The successful candidate will bring a strong analytical foundation, collaborative mindset, and a genuine passion for financial markets, demonstrated through intellectual curiosity and a proactive approach to identifying market opportunities.

Skills that will help:

  • Previous relevant experience.
  • Strong academic background in Econometrics, Quantitative Finance, or Applied Mathematics, ideally with a Master’s degree.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high quality written reports and collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to write evidence-based and persuasive reports with marketable trade recommendations.
  • Good understanding of the working of money, bonds, swaps and bond futures markets based on a detailed understanding of monetary and fiscal policies.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with a strong sense of accuracy, consistency, and the intuition to complement rigorous quantitative analysis in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated passion for financial markets, with intellectual curiosity, a proactive mindset, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving and idea generation.
  • Showed flexibility and capacity to adapt approaches in light of shifting priorities or changing conditions.
  • Proficiency in programming, preferably in Python, along with strong skills in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with data handling and model development.
  • Fluency in English is essential; proficiency in a second European language is advantageous.
