Location Overview:

Join our bustling Bromley office, situated in one of London’s greenest boroughs. Here you’ll find plentiful and easy commuting routes, with central London just 15 minutes away by train.

You may be required to work at our London office to interface with the Electronic Trading Technology team.

The Team:

The Electronic Trading Technology (ETT) team supports the Electronic Trading business in the Global Markets and Investment Banking Group. The team provides innovative solutions for low touch, low latency trading, which includes FIX connectivity, low latency market connectivity, smart order routing, algorithmic trading, and internal crossing.

The ETT team is a global team with a strong presence in every region (AMRS, EMEA and APAC). We aim to maintain a global perspective while recognizing and responding to specific regional requirements that make each market unique.

The EMEA Electronic Trading Technology (ETT) team is a vibrant team of experienced developers, business analysts and QA experts working very closely with the business group. The team supports an existing fully featured Electronic Trading product set and is also actively rolling out the next generation Electronic Trading platform. The next generation program is a sizeable investment in ensuring that the business is ready for handling higher volumes of market data and customer flow efficiently.

Role Description:

This job is responsible for building and leading a team to deliver technology products and services that meet business outcomes. Key responsibilities include developing a technology strategy, ensuring technology solutions comply with applicable standards, promoting design, engineering, and organizational practices, and advocating and advancing modern, Agile solution delivery practices. Job expectations may include coaching, mentoring, providing feedback and hands on career development, identifying emerging talent, fostering leadership skills, and managing stakeholders.

We are looking to hire a Senior Technology Manager to support development for the cross-asset Algo Trading Engines platform for Global Equities Cash Technology, Global Futures and Global FX trading. The Algo Platform represents a strategic imperative to significantly upgrade our execution capabilities and expand a world class platform to win new clients seeking performant solutions in a highly competitive environment. The ideal candidate has significant practical experience in Electronic Trading of Equities in Java and a passion for modern software architecture and development practices. You will take on a key role within our Equities Cash Trading Technology team, working with multiple partners across organizations including senior leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Delivery of key functional changes to the ETT strategy engines
  • Delivery of core framework-level changes
  • Interaction with quantitative trading group / quantitative traders to capture core requirements.
  • Being involved with all aspects of the development lifecycle (gathering requirements, developing code, writing unit tests, reviewing patches, performing 2nd level support and so on)
  • Facilitates performance and career development of employees/teams through performance reviews, coaching, and creating development plans that are needed to build competencies and skills.
  • Builds and supports teams by performing financial activities to inform workforce strategy and hiring practices, setting, and tracking maturity and quality objectives, and training employees/teams to address feedback and achieve quality and performance objectives.

What we are looking for:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience in developing modern systems using modern software development practices and an automation first mindset across the software development lifecycle, particularly around shift-left testing.
  • In depth understanding of core Java API’s (collections, concurrency, NIO)
  • Understand and have experience with multithreaded systems, working knowledge of the Java garbage collector, familiar with low latency I/O.
  • Understanding of and experience with design patterns (Observer, Factory, Singleton and so on)
  • Development practices - should be able to use test driven development and be familiar with UML and OO design. Should have experience with Eclipse or IntelliJ, GIT, continuous build servers and Maven / Gradle.
  • Should be able to work with and help more junior members as well as take technical direction from the team support.
  • Can demonstrate ability to work in a multi-faceted role (development with some testing, support, and evaluation)

Skills that will help:

  • Understanding of benchmark algo and/or smart routing strategies (VWAP, TWAP, Arrival Price)
  • Experience working with agile methodologies.
  • Demonstrable experience of front office system design and architecture (algo trading plant and topology)
  • Business Knowledge – Understanding of equities and/or derivatives markets.
  • Knowledge of FIX (heartbeating, login, sequence numbers, message types and so on)
