Job Description:
Responsible for keeping line of sight into any data risk and related issues impacting the FLU/CF, in accordance with other data related policies (e.g. Global Records Management, Business Continuity, Spreadsheet, etc.). Identifies gaps in adherence and immediately escalates. Works with appropriate partners to develop plans to close gaps. Monitors key performance indicators and internal controls. Partners with Technology to create an infrastructure and processes that enable adherence to the other data related policies and other regulatory mandates; this includes system design and architecture, data governance, data integrity, and overall management of data throughout the lifecycle. Works with other groups as needed, including Compliance, Audit, Operational Risk, and Technology to ensure effective controls over data for respective Domain. May manage others.
Line of Business Job Description
The GRM Data Governance Function reports to the GRM Data Strategy & Management Executive (DMSE) and will help manage GRM’s overall data governance program, including the GRM data management procedures, compliance with policies and standards, regulatory engagement, incidents management and analysis and overall reporting of data health across GRM on behalf of the DSME. This role reports to the GRM Data Governance Head and is provided a broad platform to build partnerships with GRM, enterprise, business and technology leadership, a vantage point to explore end-to-end processes, data ecosystems and technologies, and an ability to influence data strategies that drive the greatest value across the lines of business.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Specifically, this leader will have responsibilities across a number of areas:
- Manage data governance program across GRM on behalf of DSME to ensure robust oversight, and escalation processes across GRM, working with GRM Data Steward Executives (DSEs) and DSME teams.
- Develop consistent GRM-wide Standards adherence metrics, establish monitoring dashboards and leadership reporting protocols.
- Drive thought leadership, elevate GRM’s data priorities, and influence definition of enterprise data Standards and Policies working with Enterprise Data Standards and Governance team (EDSG).
- Broad responsibilities to manage DSM function’s day-to-day operations, including planning and managing DSM initiatives, senior leadership communication and reporting, team management and development as well as annual initiative, resourcing and funding planning on behalf of DSME.
- Partner across DSM function, GRM leadership, GRM Data Steward Executives (DSE), Front-Line Unit and Control Function stakeholder teams and Technology to:
- Oversee and manage execution of GRM’s high priority data programs on behalf of DSME.
- Drive funding and prioritization of GRM data initiatives working with GRM COO, DSEs, Risk leadership and EDSG.
- Drive evaluation and rationalization of GRM data initiatives in alignment with GRM data strategy with SCI and climate data team’s support.
- Oversee development and monitoring of GRM data roadmaps on DSME’s behalf.
- Oversee enhancement and monitoring of GRM data health dashboard with head of Data Management Operations to drive better measurement and to identify and escalate risks to DSME and GRM leadership.
- Design and coordinate targeted assessments to evaluate data capabilities maturity in GRM with the Data Management Operations team’s support.
- Oversee and coordinate regulatory support for data exams across GRM.
- Oversee and manage GRM’s data commitments to internal and external parties, monitor progress and escalate execution risks – including regulatory and audit commitments.
- Oversee and coordinate data issues analysis, prioritization, and remediation across GRM with the Data Management Operations team’s support –working across GRM DSEs – and influence FLUs to prioritize GRM initiative
- Represent GRM point of view in senior data forums across the enterprise to guide direction of standards and strategies.
- Provide support to prepare and present GRM data strategy vision on behalf of DSME to GRM CRO, senior leadership team, FLU/CF and enterprise senior stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities for data process optimization across GRM and promulgate leading practices across GRM and enterprise.
- Drive strong partnerships across the organization to fully understand their business goals and link to data needs.
- Develop and drive enforcement of standards for robust data governance.
- Prepare executive/management level reporting and other regulatory updates.
- Produce recommendations for enterprise-wide guiding principles, policies, processes and practices.
- Develop and manage approach for measuring adoption of data principles, policies, processes and practices.
- Provide oversight to ensure that the FLU roadmaps are consistent in their understanding and delivery of the full commitments to GRM data roadmaps.
- Provide in-depth and sophisticated analysis with interpretive thinking to define problems a develop innovative solutions.
- Be a thought leader and synthesize existing data governance principles, policies, practices and industry standards to influence development of best practices across the enterprise.
Requirements
- Technical Expertise: Demonstrates understanding of data and technology.
- Strong understanding of the data regulations, compliance and risk environment in financial services.
- Data maturity assessments planning and rollout.
- Execution Expertise: Ability to drive program execution through disciplined oversight with right assignment of accountabilities.
- Successful delivery in a cross functional team environment in financial services - business, technology, compliance and risk.
- Leadership capability: A successful candidate will also need to navigate effectively across different levels of the enterprise and external stakeholders.
- Executive/management level reporting and regulatory engagement.
- Able to coordinate and prioritize data strategy as well as shape detailed solutions with quants, technologists and business teammates.
- Able to adjust communication styles to explain complex issues in appropriate terms and perspectives to a broad audience.
- Strong influencing and partnership skills, including with senior FLU and Risk leaders.
- Develop strategic solutions broadly across Risk, prioritizing and influencing for needs.
- Able to represent GRM in senior forums up to executive management level.
- Excellent writing and presentation skills.
- At least 5-10 years of relevant experience with the ability to work in a large, complex organization, and influence various stakeholders and partners.
