The Team:
The Global Markets Business Controls Office (BCO) is responsible for the creation, maintenance and oversight of a robust supervision and control infrastructure relating to non-financial risk. That risk includes, but is not limited to, compliance with regulatory rules and guidance, as well as operational controls - in partnership with the business Front Line Unit (FLU).
BCO is a global group with teams in many locations, including New York, Charlotte, London, Paris, Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo. Collectively, we provide Supervisory support to Sales, Trading, Electronic/Algorithmic and Research businesses globally. We also perform trade surveillance and monitor electronic and audio communications across Global Markets.
Job Description:
BCO has an open role for a Business Controls Support Officer, at Analyst, Associate or VP level, to support and work alongside a global team of trade surveillance specialists, across all lines of business. The successful candidate will report to a senior leader within the BCO team.
Responsibilities:
Data Analysis: Review and maintain data repository to identify data gaps, improve data quality, identify data gaps and work with technology stakeholders for remediation.
Calibration and Effectiveness: Help to support the effort to fine tune trade surveillances rules and programs both on parameters and logic to improve the quality of trade surveillance alerts triggered.
Inclusion / Exclusion: Review Trade surveillance data and identify data filters then discuss them with trade surveillance SME for review and resolution.
Automation: Work on automation initiatives to achieve efficiencies, standardize processes and enhance sustainability.
Additionally:
Stay up to date on industry rules and guidelines, to ensure we implement effective surveillance measures.
Contribute to evaluation and improvement of surveillance processes and methodologies, keeping them in line with evolving market conditions.
Maintain records and documentation to regulatory standards.
Support internal audits.
Collaborate to enforce policies and procedures related to trade surveillance.
Reports all findings, potential risks and violations to senior management.
Support testing and validation of surveillance systems for accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness.
Use identified activity to improvements and enhance surveillance methodologies.
What we are looking for:
Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills are needed, to communicate complex findings or technical information to internal stakeholders and senior management.
Crisis Management: The ability to act swiftly and decisively in response to urgent or critical situations, regulatory enquiries and audit reviews.
Analytical Skills: The ability to analyze data sets, recognize patterns and draw insights from financial information.
Attention to Detail: A meticulous eye for detail, to spot anomalies or discrepancies within data sets.
Global Market Products: A solid knowledge is necessary.
Adaptability: Being adaptable and open to change is key to staying effective in this role.
Technology Proficiency: Strong skills on MS technologies: Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Understanding of Python, SQL and Tableau is a plus.
Compliance Knowledge: Understanding financial regulations and compliance requirements is preferred.
Team Player: Collaboration and teamwork skills are important for working effectively with both the global BCO team and bank stakeholders.
Proactive Learning: A willingness to continuously learn and stay updated on market trends, surveillance, and regulatory changes is beneficial.
Decision-Making Skills: The ability to make prompt and well-founded decisions, especially in situations requiring immediate action, is essential in ensuring effective trade surveillance.
Strategic Thinking: The capacity to see the bigger picture and align strategies with broader organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
Presentation Skills: The ability to create compelling presentations to convey complex findings or recommendations to stakeholders in a clear and understandable manner.
