Process/Desk Overview*

Subscription Finance Group (“SFG”) is responsible for the origination, structuring and reporting for the Bank’s subscription finance or capital commitments business. SFG is also responsible for the on-going management of the subscription finance facilities for its clients. Subscription Finance (‘SF’) facilities are revolving lines of credit that are made directly to funds investing in assets such as real estate, debt, private equity, secondary funds, etc. that are managed by a diverse set of fund sponsors. These facilities are typically used by the fund for working capital needs and can also be used to assist with the financing/purchase of investments.

The Bank provides SF facilities to large/world’s leading fund/asset managers which help finance the investment activities of specific funds. The security for these credit facilities are capital commitments from the investors or limited partners in the fund that are pledged to the Bank securing the credit facility borrowings.

  • GBS India Subscription Finance Desk provides risk-rating coverage to Line of Business (LoB) whereby the India team helps generates Risk Rating (RR) using multiple risk-rating scorecards. The assigned RR using the relevant scorecard provides analysis-based probability of default which helps to decide on the appropriate advance rate % against the borrowing base availability and thereby deploy the excess funds productively to maximize returns and have optimal capital management in place.

Job Description*

Partnering with the US based SFG team on multiple transactions that require conducting comprehensive research & financial analysis and assigning a justified ‘risk-rating’ (RR) to globally diversified Limited Partners from different sectors. GBS India SFG team has helped generate the Obligors/LPs risk-ratings by conducting comprehensive research, detailed credit analysis and currently works on the below risk-rating scorecards:

  • Judgmental (Sovereign Wealth/Investment Funds and subsidiaries)
  • Global Insurance
  • Not for Profit Foundations
  • Public and Private Pension Funds/Retirement Systems
  • Not Elsewhere Covered (Specialty Industries)
  • Mutual Funds

Responsibilities*

  • Performing comprehensive and in-depth company and industry research and detailed financial analysis (inc. comparable company analyses) across multiple years to arrive at a justified RR.  
  • Preparing all credit work including credit reports supporting the assigned risk-ratings. Conduct annual client reviews and update risk-ratings of LPs once Bank gets the mandate for a new transaction.  
  • Conduct indicative risk-rating and help LoB on the pitching for new deal.
  • Actively engaging with business partners and other members of the team, as necessary, to facilitate various aspects of the transaction management process.
  • Communicating and interacting effectively with all the members of the deal team.
  • Contribute to new transactions in terms of credit analysis, client due diligence, discussions with business stakeholders and accurate setup of client risk-rating in the internal application.
  • Build strong relationships with LoB and work on both: new originations as well as renewals of revolving line of credit deals supporting Bank’s most strategic clients.
  • Support Team Leads in maintaining product quality and manage projects effectively.
  • Monitoring and highlighting key performance and other trends related to the industry, product, etc. and be proactive to pick up new tasks, pitch for relevant projects, etc.  
  • Monitor and evaluate current events related to the fund finance industry and share findings internally and with the LoB partners.

Requirements (Qualifications and Skills) *

  • Education* MBA in Finance
  • Certifications If any e.g. CFA. FRM etc
  • Experience Range* 06 – 24 months of relevant experience preferably in Risk Rating, Capital Markets, Financial Analysis, Debt Syndications, Investment Banking, Equity Research, etc.

  • Clear grasp of Corporate Finance concepts and their application and familiarity with company filings, credit analysis ratios, financial statement analysis, etc.
  • Deadline orientation; organized and responsible; high attention-to-details and ability to deliver output of a very high standard.
  • Integrity, assertiveness, initiative, leadership, strong work ethics
  • Expertise in MS Office products such as Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Thorough understanding of the capital markets and products offered under this segment.
  • Ability to work proactively and independently as well as in a team environment.

  • Desired skills*
  • An understanding of the various products under Global Capital Markets.
  • Experience on working with Investment Banking databases: Bloomberg, Capital IQ, etc.
  • Strong interest in global financial markets and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Basic understanding and working of data analytics tools.
