Associate/ VP - Equity Research: Utilities & Power

Job Description:

The II ranked Power & Utilities team is seeking an ambitious candidate who is keen to gain vast exposure to the Utilities and Power sectors. Covering more than 49 listed stocks and over $0.5 Tn in market cap, the role would provide vast financial exposure across the energy landscape. The role would be based in New York, NY. 

The ideal candidate will have between 2 to 4 years min of experience in equity research, buy side investing experience or investment banking experience focusing on the renewable energy, power, and/or utilities sectors. This role works alongside their Senior Analyst and Junior Analyst peers in all aspects from idea generation to company meetings, and will play a critical part in providing the financial modeling, market overview, and crafting of investment thesis for stock picks.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex financial modeling & valuation work
  • Write regular industry and company reports and company launch initiations from scratch
  • Develop databases integral to our research product
  • Work with industry experts on sourcing for expert calls with investor clients
  • Demonstrate strong industry knowledge and business judgment
  • Work with Senior Analysts to develop key industry themes; and stock calls
  • Build relationships and facilitate information flow with contacts at covered companies
  • Participate and contribute to client meetings and events
  • Attend meetings and interact with key opinion leaders
  • Closely follow and understand market, industry and company specific activity, and relay to the senior analyst when traveling
  • Seek out new, unusual sources of information
  • Interact regularly with clients

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of experience
  • 2-4 min years of experience focusing in Utilities/Alternative Energy sector preferred (equity research, buy side experience or investment banking experience)
  • Strong writing and modeling skills. Must be an expert at MS Word and MS Excel
  • Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced and intense environment
  • Must have excellent communications skills, written and verbal
  • Must enjoy following the stock market and doing desktop and field research
  • Along with Finance and Accounting, should have basic understanding of economics, macroeconomic factors, international affairs, and policy/politics
  • Must have strong attention to detail, ability to multi-task
  • Must work well in a collaborative team environment

New York pay range:

$110,000.00 - $225,000.00 annualized salary, offers to be determined based on experience, education and skill set.
