The Team

The Japan Equities Research Team focuses on producing high quality and insightful research on listed companies and industry sectors in the Japanese region, as well as on global thematic trends impacting sectors under coverage. The team looks to build long‐term relationships with, and provide research and analysis to, regional and global institutional investment firms, listed and unlisted companies and key industry players.

The Role

An opportunity exists for an Associate Research Analyst to join our well rated and dynamic Japan Research team, covering stocks within Biopharmaceutical, Medtech and Healthcare Service provider sectors. This role is based in Tokyo and is an opportunity to accelerate your career with a fast‐paced working environment in sell‐side equities research at one of the leading global equity research houses.

Responsibilities

  • Role involves collaboration with the lead analyst to create timely, thematic, and transactional equity research, working from idea generation through to finished research product
  • Will involve you managing company financial models including forecasts, developing key assumptions in earnings estimates in collaboration with the lead analyst
  • Will see you engaging yourself with management of coverage companies and investor relation teams, in conjunction with the lead analyst
  • Will work with our team members in APAC, Europe, and U.S. to create cross-regional and cross-industry collaboration research report
  • Will see you initiate coverage of companies under Pharmaceutical/Healthcare sectors.
  • Scope to create a range of dedicated client relationships for yourself to market the research product to

Preferred Background

  • Excellent academic record with an Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Economics, Statistics, Finance, or a related field
  • 3‐5 years’ relevant financial analysis experience; for a candidate looking to step up into a more responsible and empowered role
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team player to meet tight deadlines to consistently high standards, attention to detail, with a high level of initiative, ownership, and motivation
  • Strong communication skills; written, oral, and numeric.
  • Fluency in Japanese is required for the role, fluency in English is advantageous.
  • Excel spreadsheet VBA skills and generative AI knowledge are preferred.
