Job description:

We are seeking a junior economist to join the Japan Economics team in Tokyo. The economist will be responsible delivering regular statistical, financial, and macro analysis of the Japanese economy; and communicating with internal and external clients.  You will also collaborate with the Global Economics team on a wide array of topics relating to the Japanese economy and wider macro environment.

Job responsibilities

  • Working with the global economics team and local macro research, your role will involve detailed analysis of the Japanese economy and presentation of views and ideas to support the activity of clients and internal stakeholders.
  • You will contribute to high frequency coverage and ad hoc publications to provide unique insights into the Japanese economy and market developments.
  • You will also support the local business by disseminating Bank of America’s global economics views, especially the US, UK & Europe, and China.
  • The role will also involve maintaining and developing databases / models, updating forecasts, and providing analysis for regularly published research and client requests.
  • Collaboration with the global economics team to ensure the relevance of local research for a global audience.

Requirements:

  • Experience gained as an Economist with a Central Bank, leading Financial Institution or Think-Tank with proven experience in statistical modelling and econometrics
  • Bachelors degree in Economics and ideally a Masters degree in Economics or a related discipline.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong quantitative and database skills
  • Able to work effectively both independently and with multiple teams/individuals.
  • Fluency in Japanese is required for the role
  • Candidates must have minimum of a professional / business level proficiency in English.
