Marketing Data Governance

Charlotte, North Carolina;

Job Description:

Financial institution marketing is subject to a multitude of existing and emerging federal, state and international regulations. Heightened consumer expectations regarding the privacy and value of their data and marketplace response to these developments demand that financial institutions become increasingly more sophisticated in the governance of data used to target product offers and serve ads. The Marketing Data Governance team oversees permissible data use requirements for Bank of America and Merrill marketing campaigns. We are looking to hire individuals with marketing or data privacy experience to keep pace with growth in our marketing campaign volumes and the ever-evolving perspectives on consumer data use.

The Marketing Data Governance team offers candidates a unique opportunity to gain experience with the criteria used to identify consumers who may need our products and services, how marketing campaigns are produced and offers are presented, how teams across one of the largest U.S. banks collaborate to determine permissible data uses and evaluate risks, and how an already heavily regulated industry prepares for a seismic shift in U.S. data privacy laws. We work directly with the business partners producing marketing campaigns for all bank products and services across all channels.

For example, our team supports:

  • New product offers across our Consumer, Small Business and Merrill lines of business
  • Existing customer communications such as welcome campaigns for newly opened checking accounts and Preferred Rewards program eligibility and benefits
  • Direct marketing efforts, such as credit card direct mail marketing
  • Offers presented to customers when they visit our website, use our mobile app or engage with us via our financial or contact centers
  • Offers presented to consumers on social or search digital platforms

Marketing Data Governance role will:

  • Work closely with business partners to evaluate proposed campaign data uses, documenting associated restrictions and requirements based on related laws, rules, regulations and policies
  • Escalate and facilitate proposed data use reviews by legal, compliance and risk teams from across the company
  • Clearly communicate to all parties the conditions and requirements of the proposed data use and precedents established with similar campaigns
  • Oversee the completion of any pending actions required to secure campaign approval and update governance records accordingly
  • Work under minimal supervision managing multiple competing requests and priorities

Required Skills:

  • Deep functional understanding of marketing standards for banking products and related data use conditions, restrictions and privacy requirements
  • Ability to interpret business requirements documents, list processing procedures and compliance requirements to produce accurate privacy and data use assessments
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate complex issues to both technical and non-technical audiences and the ability to influence at all levels of the organization
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and managing multiple priorities
  • Strong desire and aptitude to learn
  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of marketing campaign production, design, measurement and tracking processes
  • Understanding of data collection and manipulation practices
