The ESG Capital Markets (ESG CM) team is a front line, client-facing team housed within the ESG Advisory and Financing Solutions team, and are the experts on ESG-focused investors within Global Corporate & Investment Banking (GCIB). The ESG CM team leverages this expertise to help issuers maximize receptivity to their capital markets transactions within the ESG investor base. Our fixed income work includes structuring ESG-labeled capital raises such as Green Bonds and Sustainability-Linked Bonds, while our equity work includes ESG-focused positioning and optimization of ESG-oriented disclosure and IR materials in IPOs. We work closely with industry partners in Corporate and Investment Banking as well as Debt and Equity Capital Markets to deliver strategic advice to clients across the Americas.

ESG Advisory and Financing Solutions (the organization to which ESG CM reports) is a newly created organization within GCIB. This group will house ESG expertise within GCIB and collaborate with our Product and Industry coverage partners to help determine how ESG impacts our clients' cost of capital and strategic initiatives, while also advising on and structuring transactions to meet clients' ESG goals. Our aim is to provide highest quality advice on all ESG matters, informed by in-depth knowledge of markets, investor preferences, and regulatory requirements. Everything we do will be guided by a goal to support our clients in their transition to a low carbon economy and desire have a positive social impact.

Global Corporate & Investment Banking (the line of business to which ESG Advisory & Financing Solutions reports) focuses on building long-term relationships with more than 3,000 large U.S. and multinational corporations, financial institutions and financial sponsors. GCIB provides strong advisory expertise, capitalizing on powerful mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity capital markets, corporate banking, and treasury product expertise to deliver integrated financial solutions.

Job Description

The ESG Capital Markets Associate role is client-facing and will initially focus on coverage of Fixed Income products including High Grade Bonds and Leverage Finance. The Associate will report to the head of ESG Capital Markets, Americas, and is expected to have future rotations focused on ESG Equity Capital Markets.

Key tasks and responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Support the origination of new Green, Social, Sustainability, and Sustainability-Linked Bonds and other ESG-financing solutions across industries and client segments
  • Manage and directly assist in the preparation of best-in-class pitch materials to help drive client dialogue and win business
  • Drive the execution phase of awarded business; support ESG work streams including:
    • Development of Sustainable Bond Frameworks and facilitating review by Second Party Opinion Providers
    • Preparation of marketing materials such as investor presentations and prospectus supplements
    • Coordination with ESG CM teams at joint lead banks and with product and banking partners at BofA Securities
  • Prepare comprehensive ESG market analysis, trends and updates to BofA's corporate clients, and identify new analyses which will add value for the team and our clients
  • Partner with syndicate and market sales teams to collect ESG-focused investor feedback, respond to investor questions, and stay abreast of ESG market trends
  • Partner closely with Banking and Product teammates in the Americas region to help clients navigate the capital markets from an ESG perspective
  • Manage several projects at once and work effectively as an individual and as part of a team
  • Play a critical role in developing junior professionals
  • Work collaboratively with other banks and represent BofA in the best possible light
  • Participate in and contribute to campus recruiting and other efforts to build the business in a broader context

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 2 years of experience in Investment Banking or a closely related field
  • Familiarity with debt and/or equity capital markets transaction process
  • Series 63 and 79 FINRA certifications
  • Strong quantitative/analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, distinguished written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and initiatives while maintaining a strong sense of urgency
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including PowerPoint and Excel; experience with Bloomberg terminals, MSCI ESG Manager, Morningstar Direct, and other financial industry data sources is a plus
  • Ability to comfortably interact with senior clients and bankers in a professional setting
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with major sustainability trends and the influence they have on corporations and capital markets is a plus
  • Fluent in English; ability to communicate in Spanish, and/or Portuguese is beneficial
