Commercial Credit Underwriter II

Job Description:

This role typically works on most complex clients/deals and performs underwriting analysis (i.e. financial, borrower, industry, etc), prepares supporting deal justification (i.e. CAM), is responsible for initial data entry for pricing and profitability tool, ensures data quality of credit related client & deal information (NAICS, collateral, pricing, guarantees, terms/conditions, regulatory -i.e. CRA, etc.) and provides recommendation to Credit Officer on deal structure & approval (based on level/experience). May coach or mentor others on team. Typically has 1-2 years of credit analyst experience and Bachelors degree required; financial/accounting/economics degree (or experience with financial documents) preferred.

Bank of America's Healthcare Education and Not For Profit (HENFP) banking group is seeking an Underwriter.  HENFP is part of the Commercial Bank and supports the financial needs of a variety of 501c3 not for profit clients including healthcare, private universities, colleges and K-12 schools, cultural, professional and social service organizations. This position can be based in Dallas, Houston, Austin or St Louis.

Responsibilities:

The Commercial Credit Underwriter (UW) is responsible for underwriting and structuring of straightforward and complex credit transactions with minimal oversight from the Credit Officer (CO) or Commercial Credit Manager (CCM) and also approves credit transactions with some coaching from the CO/CCM based on approval grid. The UW leads the credit approval process with assistance from the CCM as needed for clients without CO coverage and is an active participant with the CO in credit approval process for complex clients/transactions. UWs may call on credit clients and prospects in partnership or independently with the Relationship Manager (RM) and/or CO as appropriate. Provides ongoing management and primary accountability for all monitoring and maintenance activities on an assigned portfolio or market, including a higher composition of complex client relationships.  UWs have accountability for delivering accurate and consistent data. They monitor clients operating performance and financial condition to proactively identify risks, issues and opportunities. They deliver financial, industry, economic and other analysis to facilitate decision making, while also ensuring adherence to credit policies, guidelines, and applicable regulatory requirements. The UW's provide ongoing coaching and support to other Credit Products team members, as applicable. They report to the Commercial Credit Manager (CCM) and partner closely with COs.

Required Skills:

General qualifications include:

  • BS/BA degree

  • 5+ years of solid experience in financial analysis, structuring, underwriting and portfolio management

  • Strong communication and analytical/technical skills, including financial accounting, modeling and loan structuring

Desired Skills:

  • Participate with RM or CO's to negotiate Credit Agreements & loan documents, as needed.

  • Be knowledgeable of the closing process & timeline for all types of loans (i.e. real estate, revolvers, etc.)

* Candidates could be hired as an UW I or II depending on skills and experience
