Mgr; Finance Business Support- Product Leader – GWIM Secured Lending (Custom, SBL, & Mortgage)

Job Description:

The Secured Lending Horizontal Team is part of the Consumer/GWIM CFO organization. The primary purpose of the team is to provide finance support for Consumer and GWIM Secured lending products (Mortgage, Home Equity, Vehicle Lending and Wealth Management Structured Lending). The team provides reporting, forecasting and stress testing, analytics (business cases, product profitability, analytics, etc.) and business partnering support. The overall team engages with other CFO teams and multiple partners groups. Partners include Line of Business (LOB) / Business Financial Officer (BFO) / Controllers / Enterprise Stress Testing teams / Treasury teams, among many others.

Product Leader Role Description

The GWIM Product Leader Role is the subject matter expert for designated products (Custom, Securities Based Lending, and Mortgage within Merrill Lynch and Private Bank businesses) while providing guidance, recommendations, & assumptions to the team. The responsibilities include:

  • Primary point of contact / coordinator for work product within the horizontal & external to the Secured Lending horizontal team. Responsible for communicating to the horizontal team updates & expectations from internal finance groups.
  • Plays a backup responsibility to Structured Lending Partnering Lead and GWIM Mortgage Partnering Lead roles
  • Helps prepare, provides assumptions, and reviews output for forecasts, stress, & month-end packages to ensure timely, error free & accurate results
  • Has GWIM Lending consolidation responsibilities – weekly forecast, quarter end Q&A, Management Committee materials, etc.
  • Maintain strategic partnership with BFO & central teams through collaboration and ensure goals are aligned
  • Stakeholder & participant in routines with loss forecasting, credit risk strategies, credit risk, product, pricing teams to influence strategies leveraging product knowledge & perspective
  • Provide meaningful analytics with support of horizontal teams to impact decisions, including business case & pricing / product profitability
  • Accountable for ensuring proper documentation, approvals, & controls are in place while coordinating with QMR / MRM & other control stakeholders

The Secured Lending Revenue Horizontal team has core responsibility to ‘do the work’ effectively, efficiently, and error free to support BFO & LOB. This includes:

  • Baseline & stress forecasts, business analytics, performance reporting &  BFO support across GWIM Lending
  • Reporting: Prepares close/consolidation/estimate responsibilities and drives reporting that is delivered to BFO/LOB and incorporates feedback into reporting – Quarter End support
  • Planning & Forecasting: Execute E2E forecast process including driver/balance/revenue development, R/Os tracking, strategy integration, reporting/analysis
  • Analytics & Strategic Support: Supports financial analysis and business case development partnering with the analytics team and other stakeholders.
  • Business Controls: Lead role related to all control activities including Audit, MRM compliance, and CFO related controls

Required Skills:

  • BS/BA in Finance or Accounting preferred, and/or equivalent work experience
  • 8+ years of accounting or financial analysis work experience
  • Financial planning, forecasting, analysis, and reporting experience
  • Strong relatable business acumen (Consumer products, P&L, organization hierarchy, business segments)
  • Strong communication (verbal and written), organization, presentation, analytical and leadership skills
  • Analytical Abilities / Financial Acumen - Systematic application of a combination of inductive and deductive reasoning to examine information, interpret results and arrive at well-founded logical conclusions. Understanding of accounting (debits / credits)
  • Builds Partnerships - Builds broad-based business relationships across the organization. Skillfully influences peers and colleagues to promote and sell ideas. Proactively surfaces and resolves conflict with minimal noise.
  • Manages operational risk by building strong processes and quality control routines
  • Advanced Excel, Modeling, Data Manipulation and PowerPoint skills
