Job Description

Bank of America Merrill Lynch is recruiting a Petroleum Engineer for its Acquisitions & Divestitures technical team. The Engineer will work alongside engineers, geologists and investment banking professionals to derive financial valuations for use in acquisitions and divestitures, corporate M&A and general client service.  The Engineer will leverage reservoir and operational engineering skills such as decline curve analysis, type curves, well spacing, well log interpretation, lease operating expenses, price differentials and reserves determination. Also, the successful candidate will support the banking team in M&A and A&D pitches, net asset valuation work, as well contribute to the development of industry thought pieces.  Responsibilities include:

  • Generate 3-phase type curves and single-well economics

  • Create economic databases within Excel and Aries software with ability to query out economic inputs and outputs via MS Access

  • Review lease operating expenses reports to determine LOE run rates, fixed and variable splits, price differentials and cost trends

  • Examine gas plant statements to determine gas shrink, NGL yields and residual gas BTU

  • Calculate quantity of drilling locations based on acreage position, well spacing assumption and target intervals

  • Generate financial models

  • Professional slide generation using PowerPoint

  • Preparation of data room materials based on data supplied by client or public sourced

  • Download public data from sources such as Enverus, IHS, Wood Mackenzie and or state oil/gas websites, quality check and manipulate

  • Source acreage, production and capital expenditures from company investor relations presentations

  • Assist in building and maintaining basin study books, maps, etc.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Petroleum or Chemical Engineering

  • 6+ years of relevant work experience (Investment Banking or Oil & Gas Operator)

  • Using valuation/analysis tools by energy-specific data providers/consultants such as a Wood Mackenzie, HIS

  • Reasonable level of discretion and professionalism dealing with confidential matters

  • Flexibility and willingness to work overtime as required

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting
