Sr. Linux/UNIX System Administrator - Core Technology Infrastructure

Position Summary:

Senior Linux/UNIX System Administrator The Server Platform Operations team is responsible for the stability, security, performance and for addressing all issues within the Infrastructure. The Senior Systems Administrator will be responsible for performing daily Linux/Unix and hardware support tasks and documentation of technical standards. This position requires hands-on experience in a multitude of domains; including, but not limited to; 24 x 7 x 365 enterprise and cloud infrastructure, security, automation, disaster recovery, enterprise data storage and backup, service request, event management, change management, and general IT support. Should have the ability to communicate technical/complex information both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperation, understanding, trust and credibility; perform multiple tasks concurrently and respond to emergency situations effectively.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical assistance/solutions to a wide range of events and user requests through an established trouble ticketing system
  • Support/Manage Redhat Enterprise Linux(RHEL) operating system on VM or x86 hardware
  • Support/Manage Legacy Unix Solaris on Sparc or AIX on pSeries
  • Configures and maintains Linux/Unix servers and processes, system health monitoring, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security. Implementing any planned service requests/changes in the servers
  • Support of hardware failures and coordinate component replacements
  • Take direction from the team lead and work within a team-environment to achieve organizational goals Provide technical solutions to a wide range of problems and user requests through an established trouble ticketing system.
  • Troubleshoots Linux server and OS issues. Independently utilizes all available resources (knowledge bases, online resources, etc.) to ensure timely resolution of server issues.
  • Develops operating procedures for system administration activities including system monitoring, performance tuning, backup/recovery and system maintenance.
  • Interfaces and partners with Vendors, Network Engineers, Storage Engineers, Database Administrators and Application Teams to optimize systems use and configuration.
  • Lends technical knowledge and recommendations to team as required. Interfaces with hardware vendors to maintain and schedule repair of equipment in a timely manner. Follow-the-sun 24x7
  • Lean operating model with proven global processes driving a culture of continuous improvement Standardization of tasks.
  • Development of Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs) Identify and track Continuous Improvement opportunities
  • Proper coordination via email / phone with Vendor teams and creation of customer support cases for issues responding to AO alerts

Required Skills:

  • 5 -7 + years of Red hat Linux, AIX and Solaris. Experience with IBM/HP or Dell x86 hardware
  • Experience with IBM pSeries and/or Oracle/Sun Sparc systems
  • Experience in Scripting Shell, BASH, Perl, YAML or Ansible
  • Experience with VMware ESX Storage management: Infoscale/Veritas, VMWare, LVM, EMC and IBM Cluster experience with Red Hat, Veritas Cluster (VCS), Oracle RAC Working knowledge of AD authentication, Kerberos, Vintella(QAS) and PowerBroker or similar products.
  • Experience with PXE boot configuration and troubleshooting network connectivity issue around VLANs, Subnets, and firewall.
  • Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting problems in bare metal or virtual/cloud environments
  • Experience in SAN/NAS configuration and migration
  • Experience with Remedy ITSM (Change, Incident, Service request management)
  • Excellent communication skills Ability to work 2nd shift 12:30 PM ET to 9:30 PM ET and will adjust to 11:30 AM ET to 8:30 PM ET during daylight savings time.
  • Ability to work on a rotating rotation shift and able to adjust work schedule.

  • GPFS cluster configurations experience
  • Red Hat Linux Technology Certifications
  • Advanced understanding of Networking
  • ITIL Experience (Service Delivery, Service Management)
