Global Transaction Services Attorney (VP Level)

Job Description:

The Latin America GTS Legal team is responsible for legal work emanating out of a variety of Global Transaction Services (GTS) products and services, including those relating to corporate cash/treasury management, foreign exchange transactions (“FX”) and trade finance/supply chain finance, in Latin America. The relevant client base is primarily made up of corporates, financial institutions and non-bank financial institutions.

The successful candidate will be invited to join our Legal Department in São Paulo as a member of the GTS Legal team covering GTS Brazil. The position will have a focus on providing legal support to the GTS Legal Brazil business with a focus on account and electronic services, digital payments (including Real Instant Payment (PIX)), Open Banking, letters of credit, supply chain finance transactions, export credit notes, guarantees, SWIFT trade advances and bilateral/syndicated loans.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide quality and on-time legal support to the business, including Global Transaction Services Product, Sales and Operations, and other support functions (e.g., Risk, Compliance and Contract Management) and, in so doing, provide thorough, accurate, timely and practical legal advice with an appropriate risk/reward balance;

  • Work on the preparation, review and negotiation of transaction documents, working closely with Contract Management on RFP and contract issues;

  • Review, update, standardize and draft relevant contractual documentation for GTS products and services;

  • Work closely with other internal lawyers, including regulatory and credit lawyers, and liaise with Litigation and the Regulatory Investigations Group, as needed, to address investigations, disputes and litigation matters;

  • Review and advise on marketing communications, as needed.

Core skills and requirements:

  • Brazilian qualified lawyer with at least 5 years’ experience.

  • Top tier law firm and/or in-house experience with a Brazilian or international financial institution covering banking, trade finance, cash management and FX.

  • A solid understanding of Brazilian banking laws, regulations and rules impacting the above products and services, including Brazilian Central Bank rules.

  • Quality and on-time delivery.

  • Strong negotiation and organizational skills.

  • The ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.

  • Strong work ethic and self-initiative, with the ability to manage a high volume of work in a fast-paced and changing environment.

  • The ability to effectively balance risk and reward and to be a trusted strategic partner with clients to help them achieve their business objectives with an appropriate risk/reward balance.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work well as part of a team with other lawyers, clients, Risk, Compliance, Contract Management and other partners.  

  • Fluency in English and Portuguese is mandatory; Spanish will be a valuable plus.
