Commercial Associate - Middle Market Banking (New York)

Job Description:

Bank of America's Metro New York Commercial Banking team has an open role for a Commercial Associate based in One Bryant Park. The team covers private and public companies with annual revenues of $50 million to $2 billion that are headquartered in New York City. The Commercial Associate serves as an integral member of the core Client Coverage team working with the Market Executive, Relationship Managers, and product partners in delivering the bank's full range of solutions including credit, treasury, risk management, advisory and capital markets, and wealth management. The position is focused on enhancing business development skills through the delivery of various financial services solutions that align to our clients' objectives and identifying opportunities to grow existing relationships and acquire new clients.

In addition to business development, areas of focus for the Commercial Associate include maintaining and advancing the group's portfolio, and assisting in the coordination of various line of business management and business integration activities. In pursuit of these objectives, the Commercial Associate will engage in the following activities: 

  • Create and organize client presentations, pitch books and relationship reviews
  • Coordinate with product partners, deal team members and clients throughout the course of a transaction
  • Participate and monitor credit approval, treasury services sales, and risk management evaluation processes
  • Manage team databases, initiative coordination and presentation materials to assure that they are complete, current and actionable
  • Monitor various line of business analytics and performance metrics to enhance efforts of expanding existing relationships and identifying opportunities for up-tiering
  • Assist the Market Executive in strategic planning, business reviews, business integration, general enterprise management and other ad-hoc related activities

The Commercial Associate's work efforts must be thorough and organized, exhibiting strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision on assigned tasks and to provide analysis to meet the client's needs and objectives is strongly desired. The Commercial Associate role is a potential path to a Relationship Manager position.

The Metro New York team of Relationship Mangers and Commercial Associates includes many colleagues who transferred from other lines of business with no prior knowledge of commercial banking. Successful candidates have strong interpersonal skills to work across various teams, coordinate with many partners, engage clients in discussions to understand their objectives, creativity to solve problems and differentiate the Bank from its competitors and a willingness to learn new concepts.  Strong organizational and analytical skills are important.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related area

  • Candidates typically have 3-5 years of work experience

  • Demonstrates initiative / self-motivation

  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills

  • Possesses strong analytical and modeling skills

  • Possesses understanding of corporate financial statements

  • Demonstrates strong critical thinking

  • Demonstrates the ability to independently make decisions

  • Knowledge and proficiency of internal/external programs such as Navigator, LoanIQ, Guidestar, Sales Presentation Center, Client Acquisition Tool, etc are helpful
