GHR D&I Executive - Merrill

Job Description:

The MLWM Diversity and Inclusion Executive position will sit in the Global Human Resources (GHR) organizations and will support the Merrill Lynch Wealth Management Team.  This role is responsible for leading the development and implementation of strategic initiatives to deliver on Merrill’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.  This role will consult with senior management and will influence peers, colleagues and manages across the diversity and inclusion space to take action on complex, technical or key topics with line of business wide impact.  The individual will need to translate enterprise diversity and inclusion goals into sub-diversity and inclusion areas and integrate them across teams.

The role will dual report to the Head of Human Resources for Global Markets, GCIB, MLWM and the Private Bank and Chief Diversity Inclusion Officer for Bank of America.  Internally, this executive will work in collaboration with Merrill senior leadership, the HR/LD organizations, Corporate Communications, Strategic Markets and the Practice Management Group to deliver on three main objectives:

  • Develop diverse talent strategy
  • Create and articulate the Merrill D&I story
  • Drive integration with key internal D&I stakeholders

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement diversity and inclusion strategy, initiatives and programs in partnership with HR and the business that proactively manage employment and reputational risks
  • Build strong partnerships across HR
  • Consult with and influence senior management and key partners; manage across multiple stakeholders to take action on complex topics
  • Utilize D&I data to monitor trends and progress and present D&I data in an impactful and action orientated way to LOB and HR leaders
  • Drive talent strategy and tactics, including leader conversations, monthly routines with Merrill leadership team and diverse top talent, etc.
  • Determine engagement strategy to build awareness of Merrill diversity and inclusion efforts, including Courageous Conversations, manager training, etc.
  • Active participant on the LOB Diversity and Inclusion Councils and provide support to Merrill LOB GDIC members
  • Represent the bank externally and develop key D&I relationships
  • Align D&I solutions with key human resources initiatives, including the best ways to hire, develop, promote and retain diverse talent
  • Consult with the Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer and the Global D&I Organization on best practices and key tactics necessary to drive progress within the business
  • Engage with HR leaders and the business to drive targeted D&I solutions and outcomes within Merrill

The ideal candidate will be a strategic, logical and creative thinker with an ability to define strategy, set clear objectives, and translate into pragmatic tactics that will drive results across Merrill.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 8+ years’ work experience in roles requiring strong relationship management skills with the ability to consult, advise and influence senior level leaders
  • Must have 8+ years’ Financial Services experience
  • Ability to influence executive management, establish and maintain collaborative partnerships and provide strategic thought leadership with senior leaders across the organization
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex large strategic initiatives front to back independently and influencing across lines of business, stakeholders and control partners to drive change to help achieve business result
  • Capable of thinking about processes end-to-end.  Able to quickly identify core business issues, detect and remove roadblocks and drive execution
  • Demonstrated interest and exposure to D&I initiatives, processes and/or programs
  • Must have strong data orientation and analytical skills, the ability to apply a combination of inductive and deductive reasoning to examine information, interpret results, arrive at logical conclusions, and recommend solutions
  • Proven presentation skills for senior executive audiences: ability to present key messages, recommendations and information in a clear, concise and insightful way and synthesize information key to relevant point
  • Strong executive presence, communicating in a clear and compelling manner with employees, clients, and enterprise partners
  • Impeccable business judgment and decision making
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and PowerPoint

Desired Qualifications

  • Prefer seasoned level HR Generalist experience
  • Strongly prefer foundational end to end knowledge of the wealth management industry
  • Previous experience working on D&I initiatives and processes
  • BS/BA degree is strongly preferred
