Ops Analyst MKTS - Fixed Income Client Settlement - New York, NY - Bilingual Japanese Required

Individual will be responsible for offering streamline operational support focusing on increased levels of service while offering our Tokyo domiciled clients an established foundation for Fixed Income and Equities securities within the Institutional environment for US/Canada/Latin and EMEA markets.  There will be immediate attention and focus to our clients’ needs while maintaining a controlled environment.  Proactively addressing potential settlement issues, capturing trade exception and fail exposure, and adding control reducing risk and exposure to the firm.  Our focus and drive is to increase levels of service while streamlining and improving process trade flows and infrastructure.

Responsible for providing a direct relationship to all clients (internal & external) based on client tier. Supporting trade allocation, trade confirmation creation, pre-matching of trades, value date settlement matching, client inquiries, receive / deliver exceptions, validation to ensure accurately and efficient settlements with our clients and client counterparties.

Listed as the main point of contact for trade processing and settlement issues during US hours. Timely communication of all potential issues is key, and required to work with trade processing team, inventory management team, reference data team, and other internal teams for root cause analysis and issue resolution of fails to meet the high expectations of Tokyo clients. Provide assistance to Sales in NY when requested, and develop strong business relationship with Sales in Tokyo, London, and NY, and operational counterparts in Singapore and Tokyo to provide streamline operational support to seamlessly manage requests from clients.  Strategically work on streamlining the process to minimize and reduce manual redundancies. Comply with regulatory requirements and account maintenance, in order to eliminate & minimize capital charge exposure daily. Japanese proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking is necessary. Core communication between clients (internal & external) will be in Japanese.  Required to be detail oriented to meet the standards of Tokyo clients.

To understand the Escalation guidelines to promptly address and escalate financial and negative client exposure situations. Successfully use time management skills and participate in special projects as requested by management.

Special Requirements: Client interaction / experience encouraged. If not back filled, there will be potential for immediate impact to the business and clients.  There is a potential for increased fail exposure.  Further risk includes client relationship and reputational risk.

Follows established written procedures and guidelines, provides standard reporting and analytical support. Uses established techniques, analyzes and resolves a wide variety of moderately complex operations problems and initiatives including transactions that require special handling and/or exception handling. Employees in this role typically have a college degree (Associates or higher) or comparable work experience. Required skills include: basic Excel knowledge, detail orientation, ability to manage multiple priorities and multi task, excellent time management and prioritization skills, ability to meet tight deadlines, ability and willingness to continuously learn on the job , ability to problem-solve and take ownership of process improvements, ability to work in a team environment, excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate with various stakeholders. Desired skills for this role include: expert Excel knowledge, Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or similar major preferred and basic understanding of and/or experience in Financial service industry. Required Skills: (Must have these skills to be minimally qualified)

  • Proficient in Japanese (writing, reading, and speaking).
  • Prior Client interaction experience.
  • Strong PC and Microsoft skills (Excel, Word, Access, etc.).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with emphasis on establishing and maintaining quality control procedures, and effectively liaison with external and internal parties, clients and colleagues.
  • Ability to multi-task and operate under high pressure situations.
  • Interpersonal skills must be very strong and team player. 
  • Must have a keen ability to efficiently manage time and priorities.
  • Must be able to bring proactive and innovative business processing solutions to completion within deadlines and with minimal risk to the organization.

Desired Skills:

  • Advanced Excel knowledge (macros, pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.).
  • Experience with cash equity securities and Global Market experience.
