Job Title: Financial Analysis – FP&A

The wider CFO Group have an opportunity for a Financial Analysis – FP&A to join their established team in either the Chester or London office. This role provides support to the EMEA GCIB Business and the candidate will be responsible for providing data, insight & analysis relating to financial performance.  You will cover critical monthly financial performance reporting and periodic forecasting and budgeting to meet corporate requirements. Interaction will largely be with EMEA GCIB COO, LOB leaders and CFO, plus interaction with global FP&A and wider Finance organization, and the GBS team (offshore FP&A team).

There will be broad scope and interaction with many key stakeholders across the franchise. Successful team members will gain an excellent understanding of the Investment Banking and Corporate Bank product suite and solid understanding of revenue and expense drivers. Previous team members have progressed to more senior roles in FP&A, as well as across the broader Finance group and elsewhere in the bank.

Candidates must be versatile, able to produce high quality work under tight timescales, work across business lines and support areas and communicate well with senior executives and leaders. The role would suit a finance professional (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CFA) with proven business knowledge of the investment banking industry and a good understanding of industry trends and the performance drivers behind key product lines.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide financial support for EMEA GCIB. This includes ongoing management reporting as well as involvement in any current projects and initiatives

  • Preparation and review of weekly and monthly reporting packs covering P&L, revenue and expense analysis and other relevant financial information e.g. cost allocation details/balance sheet information

  • Providing data and commentary for high profile presentations with stakeholders including senior management, regulators and legal entity Board members as well as Town Halls

  • Detailed expense review including interpretation of costs received from internal support groups and sourcing explanations from regional business finance where necessary

  • Preparation and input of financial forecast and budget for revenues and expenses, at both management and legal entity level, including supporting analysis of results and commentary

  • High-level review and understanding of key revenue drivers and expense commentary, ability to highlight and probe for additional analysis

  • Detailed business reviews on profitability

  • Dealing with any ad hoc queries from finance or the business

  • Partnering with the India FP&A team to ensure timely and accurate delivery of reporting

  • Continuous review of reporting and process with drive to ensure reporting is both relevant and produced efficiently, including working with CFO and wider FP&A team on new /improved MI for the business

The Team

The EMEA GCIB team (3 people) sits within the wider EMEA Corporate FP&A team (9 people), and provides key financial analysis and support the GCIB business heads. The team work closely with the wider GCIB finance team and the business heads in order to provide timely and insightful analysis. In addition, the team also owns the quarterly forecast process as part of the firm wide planning cycles.

Core Skills:

  • High degree of numerical, verbal and analytical ability

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, CIMA or ACCA qualified) with proven accounting skills and an eye for detail

  • Able to produce high quality, accurate output under tight timescales

  • Confident interpersonal skills and ability to build partnerships with key internal clients

  • Proactive and self-motivated with a track record of delivering insightful analysis and making improvements

  • Organised, able to manage workload efficiently

  • Confident Excel skills

  • A genuine interest in Banking as an industry and a desire to understand how businesses operate and what drives the financial performance. 

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of investment banking industry

  • FP&A experience, including building forecasts, designing reports and generating analysis
