Patent Paralegal

Charlotte, North Carolina

Job Description:

The patent paralegal is an integral member of the patent team which manages the bank’s patent portfolio.  The primary responsibility for this role is maintaining the bank’s database for all foreign and domestic patents.  The patent paralegal will also support a number of ongoing patent-related projects.

Duties & Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Manage the patent docket and ensure data accuracy
  • Generate reports to support the bank’s patent program
  • Analyze patent and patent examiner data
  • Perform patent content reviews and screening
  • Ensure the timely filing of all U.S. and foreign patent applications
  • Ensure U.S. and foreign annuity payments are made on time
  • Maintain patent prosecution procedures
  • Ensure outside counsel adherence to bank processes and procedures
  • Prepare outside counsel performance reports
  • Provide paralegal support for IP projects including intellectual property due diligence and patent litigation

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • 2+ years as a paralegal
  • 1+ years’ experience in patent prosecution
  • Strong Communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to handle multiple projects
  • Undergraduate degree (or equivalent work experience)

Desired Skills & Abilities:

  • Patent docketing experience
  • Paralegal certificate
  • Public and Private PAIR expertise
  • Familiarity with patent analytic tools such as Innography, Derwent, Questel, PatSnap or AcclaimIP
