Assistant Vice President/ Vice President Patching and Currency, Core Technology Infrastructure

  • Ability to work evenings / weekends
  • Excellent attention to detail to follow documented procedures, ability to continually offer suggestions to simplify and improve procedures
  • Experience and complete working knowledge of operating system base health/welfare and x86 midrange IBM, HP, Dell hardware troubleshooting.
  • Experience in diagnosing, researching and resolving system platform related issues
  • 5+ years of experience with Red Hat Linux 6.x, 7.x, 8.x OS & Kernel, experience with Solaris
  • 5+ years of experience working with servers in an enterprise environment consisting of 1,500 or more servers
  • Good analytical, reporting skills. Must have reasonable skills in Microsoft office (Excel/Powerpoint)
  • Desired Skills:
    • Scripting – Ansible, Perl, Shell, Python
    • Experience with VCS & RHCS clustering solutions for Redhat Linux
    • Experience with PXE, 10/40GB, Mellanox, SolarFlare Products and Technology

What you can expect

The ‘Currency – Server Patching’ team aims to remediate and help prevent server vulnerabilities within the Bank by keeping existing operating system and software products current.  Server Patch Management includes targeting, scheduling, patch application, governance and reporting that operate enterprise–wide to drive risk reduction.   In principle, the program operates under these expectations:

  • Every server is patched at least once per month
  • Patches are applied consistently and effectively
  • Patches are applied in accordance with timelines established by Global Information Security
  • When patches cannot be applied within mandated timelines, a remediation plan is defined and approved by both the Line of Business and Global Information Security

The team requires a senior Unix/Linux system engineer with strong communication skills, excellent operational execution & troubleshooting skills, and experience working within enterprise environments.  You will be part of a team contributing to actively reducing the number of server vulnerabilities across support scope.  This role is primarily focused operating system server patch and core ancillary upgrades & installation, and the associated communication, troubleshooting and change control efforts as part of monthly patching routines.

What you will do

  • Execute and oversee server patching during specified maintenance windows using a variety of mechanisms and tools including BladeLogic jobs, custom scripts and perform manual updates where required on more complex systems
  • Execute pre-checks to help ensure successful patching events and post-checks to ensure system stability and configuration consistency
  • Communicate regularly with application production support teams, platform engineering teams and level 3 systems operations teams
  • Troubleshoot and resolve patch and server failures and escalate where needed. The person must be able to quickly identify network or infrastructure related problems and manage the remediation/escalation. This resource serves as a bridge in explaining symptoms and troubleshooting performed to global operations teams if necessary
  • Document and maintain operational procedures
  • Responsible to develop a close partnership with the line of business and have a working knowledge of their applications
