Production Services Analyst - Mainframe, Foundational Services

Job Description:

The Production Services Analyst will support the mainframe environment utilizing standard mainframe tools.   

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitor the mainframe environment utilizing standard mainframe tools
  • Be proactive to any incidents in order to minimize impact to service deliveries to the mainframe environment
  • Escalate issues and problems to support or management groups as required and to provide operational assistance to diagnose and repair.
  • Handle and interrogate any alerts in the mainframe environment
  • Perform system tasks and system maintenance functions when required. Ensure all incidents and events are followed-up

Required Skills

  • Candidate must have a 4 year degree in Computer Science or a Certificate from an accredited Technical School in Computer Technology or 3 or more years of console operations work experience in a large scale multi-platform data center.
  • Understand basic technology functions and principles
  • Understand the sensitive and critical nature of data processing and service level agreements and be able to proactively contribute to organizational goals and delivery targets.

Desired Skills

  • Demonstrate ability to function in a high pressure production support environment and handle multiple tasks.
  • Excellent written and communication skills.
  • Ability to quickly grasp and understand new technologies.
  • Ability to takes the initiative to identify on-the-job learning opportunities.
  • Technical experiences including operator level knowledge of JES3 (or JES2) and MVS command sets and console operations.
  • Working knowledge of job scheduling platforms such as TWS (OPC/ESA), CA7 and the ability to navigate and provide operator level control over CICS, MVS, JES3.
  • Knowledge of standard mainframe tools such as: Omegamon/MAINVIEW, OPS/MVS, SA390, CAO, TMON, and NETVIEW. A working knowledge of VTAM/SNA, IPL and POR procedures
  • Experience with ticketing tools such as BMC Remedy.

Job Profile:

Production Services is responsible for running the day to day operations of the technology platform. Work activities specific to Production Services roles include Problem/Incident Management, Release/Deployment, Operational Readiness, Capacity/Availability Management, Application Monitoring, Service Analytics and Reporting, Production Governance, Triage, Associate Support, Change/Configuration Management, etc. The Production Services Analyst identifies possible production failure scenarios, creates incident tickets, enhancements and/or problem tickets in ticket tracking system, and communicates effectively with development and internal business operations teams. Identifies vulnerabilities and opportunities for improvement, as well as maintain metrics to help develop analysis that will drive improvement in all areas of Production Services. Creates and enhances administrative, operational and technical policies and procedures, adopting best practice guidelines, standards and procedures. Takes ownership of escalations and perform trouble shooting, analysis, research and resolution using advanced query and programming skills. Performs analytical, technical, and administrative work in planning, installing, designing and supporting new and existing equipment and software under moderate supervision. Resolves less complex issues. Consults with end users to determine optimal configuration of equipment and applications. Works on problems of minimal scope where analysis of situation or data requires a review of identifiable factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Should have awareness and exposure to basic technical principles, concepts and techniques. Competent to work under supervision on less complex systems issues, in some cases working from documentation. Limited responsibility. Limited knowledge of business or function for which system is designed. Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained. Typically this is considered an entry-level position.
