Mainframe Capacity Planner, CSW & Enterprise Application Production Services & Technology

Job Description:

The Mainframe Capacity Planner role is responsible for mainframe server capacity planning, configurations and insuring efficient usage of enterprise mainframe servers.

You’re viewed as a technology subject matter expert with the ability to provide and communicate complex technology situations across differing audiences including technical, managerial, business executives and/or vendors.

The role works with other areas to maintain correct capacity levels for software licensing including support for group-LPAR softcaps to help control cost and stays current with new System z technology and promotes new features/functionality.

Required Job Skills:

  • 5-7 years in Information Technology
  • Possess strong mathematical, statistical and analytical skills, have a complete understanding of mainframe capacity planning concepts and be able to support capacity forecasting
  • Extensive knowledge of IBM zEnterprise server hardware and working knowledge of RMF and SMF data
  • Good understanding of MICS, SAS, MXG and Omegamon
  • Experience mentoring less experienced capacity planning team members
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a 24x7 environment with occasional weekend work

Assists in establishment of input/output processes and working parameters for hardware compatibility and coordination of subsystems design and integration of total system. Serves as a fully seasoned/proficient technical resource; provides tech knowledge and capabilities as team member and individual contributor. Will not have direct reports but will influence and direct activities of a team related to special initiatives or operations. Provides input on staffing, budget and personnel. Typically 5 or more years of systems engineering experience.
