Business Support Manager - Outside Counsel Management/Legal

Job Description:

A key Business Support position, with strong finance background, on the Outside Counsel Management & Strategy team in the Legal Department has become available. 

This strategic position supports a wide range of activities, including the Legal budget and forecasting process, analysis and approval process for alternative fee arrangements (AFAs) for significant legal matters, and administration of panels of approved Outside Counsel law firms.  The position works closely with internal stakeholders in the Litigation, Regulatory Inquiries Group (RIG), and Global Banking and Markets (GBAM) Legal teams, as well as Legal Finance partners, and with external stakeholders from key Outside Counsel firms to ensure prompt and accurate management of budgets, AFAs, and credits or discounts provided by firms.  The position also assists with Outside Counsel performance reviews and a variety of data analytics, reporting, legal technology, and other strategic projects. 

The ideal candidate has strong finance and/or legal background (e.g., senior paralegal experience) and excellent interpersonal skills necessary to liaise with relationship partners and round out a dynamic and highly-collaborative team.  The position typically manages numerous different and conflicting objectives, projects, or activities at once, so attention to detail and strong organizational skills are essential.

Required Skills & Experiences:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 5-10 years of experience working in a Finance, Legal, Vendor Management, and/or related field. 

  • Advanced experience in Excel including creating formulas (“sumifs”, “countifs”, and “vlookups” etc.), pivot tables, data tables, charts, and graphs.  

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and PowerPoint.

  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and interpreting large data sets.

  • Familiarity with forecast process and financial reporting. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Effective time management skills and the ability to effectively switch between short-term metric-driven and long-term project implementation tasks.
