Director, Surveillance Strategy Futures & Options Lead, Global Compliance & Operational Risk Organization

Your background

  • Trading domain knowledge, including the mechanics of how futures, options and derivatives are traded and a strong understanding of the APAC markets microstructure;
  • Strong understanding and/or experience on a trading desk to include order placement and routing, market data;
  • Technical experience and understanding of data attributes associated with orders, quotes and fills (i.e. FIX protocol, etc.)
  • Experience with market surveillance systems, such as SMARTS, Actimize, KX, Eventus, TradingHub, OneTick or similar, to include alert generation logic and detailed data requirements;
  • Programming and/or data management skills in order to:
    • Carry out detailed analysis of alert generation logic, calibration of parameters and ad-hoc data projects;
    • Analyze raw data sets, drawing conclusions & developing (high level and detailed) recommendations;
  • Basic understanding of statistics that includes mean, median, mode, standard deviation, etc.;
  • Strong team player who works well with others and supports a culture of learning, knowledge sharing and teaching.

What you can expect

This role is a brand new function within Global Banking and Markets Compliance. You will be part of a new global team focused on improving the surveillance program across asset classes. The right candidate will partner with our technology and compliance teams to identify and improve issues with data quality, coverage completeness, and parameter settings for surveillance alerts. This role will also have exposure to traders and senior managers in APAC, as well as AMRS and EMEA.

What you will do

  • Rationalize the surveillance alerts in our 2nd LOD function in order to improve the quality of alerts using expertise of product-specific market microstructure and supporting data.
  • Improve the Surveillance program by identifying critical order / quote attributes that may impact the quality of alerts, including timestamps and market data.
  • Lead periodic parameter reviews to analyze the quality and quantity of existing surveillance alerts and make recommendations for changes.
  • Lead “effectiveness reviews” of surveillance alerts to take deep dives into the surveillance alert logic and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Identify gaps in venue coverage by comparing transactional data from trading systems to surveillance alert generation.
  • Serve as technical liaison for GBAM Compliance and Operational Risk groups regionally on interactions with internal technology teams and external vendors on all product-specific surveillance matters.
  • Participate with the front-office in trading venue onboarding in order to ensure that surveillance of the new trading activity will work as needed.
  • Participate in front-office market discussions to stay informed about new order types and changes to the market microstructure.
