Database Automation Engineering Architect

Job Description

The Database Automation Engineering Architect provides senior level database platform architecture, engineering and automation across multiple database products. As Senior Database Architect and Subject Matter Expert (SME)  for the database products,  and is responsible for defining and owning architectural vision for databases, build and security standards, and executing on solution implementations to align with the enterprise architecture strategy, technology and platform choices.

Key activities include:

  • Describing the solution intent and the associated operating environment, determines the primary systems/subsystems and their interfaces, defining non-functional requirements and architectural runway to support new epics/features.
  • Ensuring the solutions are fit for purpose and use by working with stakeholders, vendors/service providers, and evaluating the impact of strategic design decisions.
  • Working across business and technology to create the solution intent and architectural vision and evolves it to an emerging backlog
  • Consulting the business to clearly understand the business problems and technology to understand the technology challenges of the solution and finds creative solutions through practical experiments and POCs.
  • Leading rapid shaping of a high-level architecture with details filled in with emerging business requirements
  • Ensuring functional requirements for a solution are sufficiently met (e.g. security, performance, maintainability, scalability, usability, and reliability)
  • Educating team members on the technology practices, standardization strategies and best practices to create innovative solutions. Individual contributor

Required Job Skills:

  • 10 – 12 years of IT experience
  • Solid experience as an Architect and Subject Matter Expertise for database products including platforms such as Oracle, Sybase, mySQL, MS SQL Server and DB2
  • Hands-on experience with installation/maintenance of Golden Gate, Data Guard, Rapid Home Provisioning, Exadata
  • Experience with configuration and setup of Exadata compute and storage nodes
  • Experience with IBM Guardium Database Activity Monitoring technology, with the setup and configuration of appliances and agents on RHEL, Windows, and Mainframe – GIM, S-TAP/K-TAP
  • Broad knowledge of database security (e.g. access control, data protection, administrative misuse)
  • Experience working in complex technical environment, meeting target timelines, facilitating project deliverables, authoring project documentation, issue identification and resolution
  • Demonstrated ability to self-direct project outcomes, with minimal supervision
  • Exceptional communication and customer relationship skills.
  • Ability to build consensus and cooperation as well as to influence, interact and negotiate with senior leadership in the organization
  • Ability to navigate and work effectively across a complex, geographically dispersed organization

Performs design and code reviews to ensure all non-functional requirements for a solution are sufficiently met (e.g. security, performance, maintainability, scalability, usability, and reliability).
