Commercial Associate - Middle Market Banking - (Boston)

Job Description:

The Bank of America Middle Market segment is seeking a Commercial Associate to join our Boston Team. The Middle Market segment of the Global Commercial Bank serves public and private companies with annual revenues of $50 million to $2 billion.  The position offers a steep learning curve, is focused on enhancing business development skills and proficiency in the financial services / products which support our Middle Market Clients' objectives, and affords the opportunity to work with many product and enterprise partners throughout the organization. 

 

The Commercial Associate participates as an integral member of the core Client Team working with the Market Manager and Market Executive, Senior Relationship Managers, Wholesale Credit colleagues and other product partners in support of our client and prospect activities.  A principal area of focus for the Commercial Associate includes business development for both existing clients and prospects. The Commercial Associate's work efforts must be thorough, focused and organized, exhibiting strong oral and written communication skills; able to work with minimal supervision on assigned tasks, and able to connect analytical work to client needs and strategic objectives.

In pursuit of these objectives, the Commercial Associate will directly engage in the following activities: 

  • act as an integral member of the core Client Team, working with commercial clients and internal partners to develop and participate in client and prospect presentations;
  • deliver financial, industry and economic analyses, research and other activities to facilitate client selection and other decision-making;
  • manage various industry data bases, archival and presentation materials to assure they are complete, current and actionable;
  • develop the necessary product knowledge (Treasury, Foreign Exchange, Rates, International, Investment Banking) to deliver our platform to clients and prospects to support the responsible growth of the portfolio;
  • coordinate with product partners, deal team members and clients throughout the course of a transaction, striving to be the connection between Middle Market and counterparts throughout the bank;
  • develop relevant screening memos, and understanding financial models and sensitivity analyses to facilitate the lending or raising of capital;
  • participate in credit approval, treasury products / services sales, and risk management evaluation processes, as appropriate, to gain exposure to these disciplines;
  • assist with monitoring various line of business analytics and performance metrics to enhance relationship management efforts in terms of expanding existing relationships and identifying opportunities for up-tiering;
  • assist the Market Manager/Market Executive in other ad hoc related activities.

     Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related area
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years of previous business experience
  • Completion of a Commercial Credit Training Program preferred
  • Demonstrates initiative / self-motivation
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills
  • Possesses strong analytical and modeling skills
  • Possesses understanding of corporate financial statements
  • Demonstrates strong critical thinking
  • Demonstrates the ability to independently make decisions
  • Knowledge and proficiency of internal/external programs such as Navigator, GUS, CapIQ, Pitchbook, Factset, etc

     Desired:
  • Desire to work in Global Commercial Banking with an interest in Middle Market Banking
