Portfolio Manager Associate - Chicago OR NYC OR Boston

The candidate will support senior fixed income portfolio managers in a range of administrative, portfolio management, investment analysis, and client service responsibilities. Over time, they will gain experience and responsibility for portfolio construction and trading of client portfolios. The candidate will also contribute to the thought leadership and implementation of the team's mortgage and structured product strategies in client portfolios.

The ideal candidate is high energy, curious and approaches learning proactively. They have excellent problem solving skills, a high degree of attention to detail and are able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a time sensitive manner. Experience or familiarity with finance, fixed income concepts, trading and reporting systems is preferred.

  • Prepare client presentations and new business materials. Manage ad hoc client requests.
  • Direct client on-boarding and maintain accurate client records on internal reporting portals.
  • Assist in the implementation of investment solutions for laddered and actively managed fixed income client portfolios.
  • Coordinate the trading of accounts and complete basic portfolio management functions including monitoring of portfolios for bond maturities, duration variances, and cash flows. 
  • Implement portfolio positioning, raise cash, cover overdrafts, and identify appropriate trades in order to manage portfolios to investment targets and models (e.g. credit quality, duration, curve, and security selection) under supervision of senior Portfolio Managers.
  • Interact with Private Bank partners to help ccommunicate team investment positioning, resolve client questions and address operational issues.
  • Contribute to the team's process research on structured products including MBS, CMBS, and ABS.
  • Collaborate with senior members of the CIO FI team in order to monitor credit quality of portfolio holdings, evaluate relative valuations, and make issuer/cusip level recommendations.
  • Help develop sector level investment views – communicate these views to senior portfolio managers and traders.
  • Act as liaison between research, portfolio managers, and traders to aid in the ongoing management of structured product allocations across portfolios.

Qualifications:

  • Research experience in or working knowledge of the structured market preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple deliverables simultaneously, work independently, but also support broader team efforts.
  • 3+ years professional experience in investments
  • Knowledge and passion for the securities and financial markets.
  • Excellent analytical/problem solving and computer skills with emphasis on quantitative analysis. Strong Excel skills are a requirement.
  • MBA/CFA or progress towards CFA is a plus
