Job Title: Java Front Office Developer

The role is to work in the Market Connectivity team. Market Connectivity provides the firm’s only access to EMEA equity exchanges for our very successful algorithmic trading business. To maintain this access requires constant upgrades of systems as exchanges develop and change. The team also maintains other critical parts of the department applications.

Overview of the Role:

Here in our London office we are looking to recruit for a java developer to work on electronic trading applications, specifically exchange connectivity, Direct Market Access order management and market data processing. The asset class is almost exclusively equities. Projects include new initiatives, and enhancing, maintaining and supporting the applications. Most applications are based on a global framework, so there is frequent interaction with colleagues in AMRS and APAC.

The successful candidate will be involved in all stages of the software development life cycle, from raising JIRAs, to pushing new releases to QA and Production. Third line support is done on a rota basis.

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Understanding requirements, either documented, or based on discussions with product development, traders and business analysts
  • Developing and unit testing code
  • Reviewing other team members’ changes
  • Releasing and integrating changes to systems in QA and Production

Overview of the Team:

The Connectivity team is split between London (currently four) and India (five). We use an agile software development methodology, with daily standups, and the usual retrospectives and planning. The team prides itself on having an open, collaborative culture where questions, suggestions and innovations are welcome. For new initiatives, we work closely with business analysts, and there is a QA team to perform end to end testing.

Core Skills:

  • Experience of distributed, multi-threaded system development in Java (Java 1.8 preferred).
  • Previous experience at a tier one bank
  • Experience of JIRA, git, and Jenkins or similar
  • Previous server side financial application development experience is highly advantageous but not essential
  • An appetite to work on critical systems – most equities electronic trading in BofA EMEA comes through these systems
  • Knowledge of FIX or electronic trading is desirable
  • Sound knowledge of software engineering design patterns and practices. Soft Skills Required- - Proactively own and resolve details of high level tasks - Enjoy team working environment - Demonstrate an understanding of operational aspects of managing a software stack"
