Vice President/ Director- GCSS, Distressed Trading

Team Description

Global Credit and Special Situations (“GCSS”) trades and positions distressed and special situations securities in the following product areas: distressed debt (loans, bonds, leases, mezzanine and subordinated debt); distressed structured products; DIP and rescue financings; hard asset financings; non-performing loan portfolios; public and private reorganized equities; and vendor/supplier claims. The desk’s trading customers are typically distressed debt hedge funds, CLOs, and credit arbitrage funds.

The team is a long-standing leader among distressed trading desks and commands a high percentage of trading market share among competing sell-side peers. In addition to Desk Analysts, the team is comprised of traders, sales coverage professionals, and sourcing professionals who typically cover commercial banks and CLOs. The team trades securities across a vast array of industries and is involved in both large, liquid as well as middle-market, illiquid situations.

Desk Analyst Role
Desk Analysts are responsible for performing comprehensive credit analysis to support trading and positioning. They work closely with trading and sales professionals to develop and explain investment ideas to our customers. While Desk Analysts do not publish research, there is substantial interaction with clients. In addition, there is frequent interaction with lawyers, consultants and management teams to discern and strategize around corporate reorganizations and turnarounds.

The team’s analysis involves extensive corporate financial modelling and a very high degree of analytics, especially focused on corporate valuation work. Accordingly, a fluency in reading financial statements, accounting, corporate finance and financial modelling is required.

Qualifications and Abilities

  • Bachelor's Degree/ Min 5 years experience
  • Solid modelling, accounting, corporate finance, valuation and credit skills gained through experience in areas such as investment banking or debt or equity research.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Solid attention to detail.
  • Desire to work in an exciting, high-intensity trading floor environment and passion for markets.
