Merrill Lynch South Africa Pty Ltd (MLSA) t/a BofA Securities has an exciting permanent position available for a talented individual looking to work in a dynamic environment. Based in Sandton, South Africa, the purpose of this role is to provide timely allocations for the local Cash Equities Trading desk and local clients. The Operations team in South Africa is responsible for a varied number of middle and back office functions and plays a vital role within the local franchise.

The successful applicant will ensure a high level of client service is provided to both internal and external clients, whilst complying with internal procedures, controls and JSE regulatory requirements.

In addition to the core responsibilities of the role, this opportunity enables the associate to develop their understanding across the full trade lifecycle across both equities and equity derivatives as well as the global markets business.

Please note preference will be given to Employment Equity candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure correct and accurate allocations for the local cash equity trading desk and local clients

  • Taking the necessary action to ensure resolution of client queries and amendments

  • Client data management in local systems

  • Client Service

  • Equity Derivatives Clearing

  • Ad Hoc internal and regulatory projects

  • Ensure that all established procedures are followed to ensure controls are adhered to.

  • Escalation of potential risks and exposures are reported timely

    The Team:

Global Markets Operations (GMO) delivers support for Global Markets sales, trading and underwriting businesses, and certain shared services across securities, derivatives, foreign exchange, futures, options and commodities products for Corporate Treasury, Corporate Investment Portfolio and Wealth Management.  The MLSA team forms part of the Securities Core Trading Operations division which manages the daily operations of our Global Market client base, handles post-trade operations and is the primary interface to Global Equities Trading partners.

Core Skills:

  • Experience in Broker Operations

  • Experience in equity client allocations

  • Have BDA (Broker Dealer Accounting) experience and knowledge

  • Experience in equity derivative clearing (advantageous)

  • JSE Settlement Officers Exam (advantageous)

  • Excellent organisational skills

  • Be self-motivated

  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Capable of working as part of a team

  • Strives to bring new thoughts and ideas to the team in order to drive innovation and efficiencies

  • Excels in working among diverse viewpoints to understand best way forward
