Job Title: Credit Risk Officer

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly motivated Vice President level Credit Risk Officer to join our team in Paris. The role will involve handling a portfolio of European Banks and Non-Banking Financial Institutions, including Asset Managers and Insurance Companies. You will partner with Senior Credit Risk colleagues, Wholesale Credit, Corporate and Investment Banking and Global Markets teams in supporting this important client segment. 

You will be a dedicated Credit Risk professional with experience in Financial Institutions Credit Risk, able to risk manage the portfolio including approving credit limits and transactions under designated approval authority, being SME in industry themes, Bank products and documentation and regulatory changes within sector. Involvement in regulatory initiatives and experience of risk framework design would be helpful. Ideally you will have had previous Financial Institutions credit risk underwriting experience, ideally with some level of independent approval authority covering the European Banks/ NBFI sector.  

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Reviewing credit proposals, new transactions, sanctioning exposure/limits for portfolio clients within appropriate risk parameters under delegated authority; risk types covered include lending, structured funding trades, RCFs, FX, derivatives, repo, GTS facilities

  • Acting as a sounding board and trusted advisor to the team members on key portfolio transactions and initiatives. Providing feedback to GCIB Credit/GMC on new client/transaction screenings in order to influence outcomes in line with credit risk appetite, including appropriate transactions structures

  • Identify and monitor top down emerging risk trends within the portfolio and devise action plans for mitigation where appropriate

  • Build and maintain portfolio-level reporting routines which cover key movements in portfolio sensitivities, exposure changes and credit rating migrations

  • Involvement in regulatory deliverables and other ad-hoc legal entity tasks which require credit risk input

The Team:

The Credit Risk in Paris is made of two credit risk specialists, including BofASE SA Head of Credit Risk. The team works closely with the broader European ‘Enterprise Credit Risk’ team and has exposure to the 3 EU/UK Chief Risk Officers. In Paris, the team also works closely with other Risk group stakeholders, particularly the teams of Market Risk and Liquidity Risk.

Core Skills:

  • Experience of Financial Institutions sector client base (with appropriate level of independent approval authority)

  • Knowledge of Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa regions is helpful, but not critical

  • Solid familiarity with product suite, documentation, broad perspective of themes and regulatory developments impacting the sector

  • Deep knowledge of derivative products and experience of discussing complex structures with corporate and investment banking, sales and trading

  • Exposure to sector regulatory developments and impacts

  • Crisp and influential communication skills in both oral and written form

Competencies:

  • Solid communicator

  • Confidence in challenging 1st line of defence at all levels; you should be comfortable interacting and influencing at Director and MD levels

  • Ability to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment in a variety of different situations; grasp of complex structures

  • Highly motivated individual with a passion for continued individual learning

  • Language: Fluency in English is essential

  • Competent in using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint software for presentations
