Splunk Engineer

Job Description:

Role Summary:  Team is currently seeking a seasoned Splunk Engineer to support our Technology Infrastructure Services Organization. The candidate will be responsible for achieving deep technical analysis of critical components in a full-stack model for prioritized services, and analyzing those against Never Down standards and Principles. This role will work closely with Never Down Architecture, Engineering and Operations leads, key architecture and Engineering SMEs across GT&O, including CCI.

Responsibilities:  The goal for a person in this role is to lead one or more individual Execution workgroups and ensure systematic discovery of key technology components for full stack for an Enterprise prioritized list of services, in collaboration with a broad set of technology SMEs within GT&O.

The candidate must be able to 

  • Lead workgroups effectively in order to conduct interviews effectively, and non-judgmentally, 

  • Identify additional technology SMES and secure needed sponsorship for the workgroup rapidly

  • Act as the escalation point for the analysts in the workgroups

They must be able to build relationships with key technical and business leaders to successfully and consistently complete service ND analysis, in order to deliver “Never Down” or fully resilient Services with agreed SLAs to our customers. The candidate in this role must be able to answer questions about the ND objective, and be a servant leader to enable analysis, findings documentation, socialization, prioritization, and remediation recommendation in collaboration with Standards team leads.
 

The candidate must also be able to feedback any requests for requirements needed to make the analysis back to the standards team. The ideal candidate will have deep technical analytical, and soft skills to be able to build rapport with key senior technical executives and business leaders.

Required Skills:

  • 5 or more years hands on experience with Linux/UNIX with an emphasis on builds, scripting, automation, and performance.

  • 3 or more years Splunk 6.x/7.x/8.x Administration on Linux.

  • 3 or more years advanced shell scripting skills.

Desired Skills:

  • Must be able to communicate advanced command line and administration skills in interview.

  • Must be able to speak to Splunk data life cycle.

  • Knowledge of privilege elevation tools

  • Results oriented, business focused, and successful at interfacing across multiple organizational units at various levels

  • Self-motivated, confident and reliable

  • Willing to work in a team-oriented environment with global team members

  • Ability to document and follow installation procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), etc.

  • Experience with ITSM Remedy or other ITSM tools 

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent preferred

  • Experience in a high volume Splunk environment

  • Rsyslog v8+ experience and advanced configuration knowledge
