Commercial Credit Lending Officer I – High Attention Credit (HAC)

The objective of the High Attention Credit organization is to identify and manage credits that are generally considered to be higher risk than the broader portfolio with the ultimate goal of creating financing solutions that balances both client retention and asset quality.  The current scope includes supporting both Business Banking and Middle Market clients with a loan size up to $5 million with a national footprint.

Working closely with an assigned Relationship Management team, the Special Assets Group and Credit Risk, the Lending Officer is primarily responsible for analyzing, underwriting and approving credit solutions for clients that have been risk rated as criticized and/or clients experiencing acute financial performance or structural weakness. He/she will ensure data quality and operational excellence, maintain strict adherence to Policies and Procedures, and operates within the Bank’s Risk Framework.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Engage directly with the clients to assess credit risk by asking probing questions

  • Fully evaluate the current credit health of the client and appropriately challenge all assumptions used in the forecasting provided by the client

  • Facilitate information receipt to inform a point of view on immediate cash flow constraints inclusive of negative working capital and fixed payment delays

  • Facilitate, where appropriate, the client creation of a 13 week cash flow model to inform potential solutions.

  • Develop and recommend various financing solutions in partnership with Relationship Managers and SAG (where appropriate) including but not limited to covenant relief, liquidity solutions, enhanced pricing, incremental collateral, enhanced monitoring and equity contributions.

  • Drive/assist in the negotiation of the terms and conditions of the amended facility with the client (waivers, amendments and forbearance agreements).

  • Partner with relationship management in subsequent client calling efforts to continually assess the identified credit risk and financial health of the client

Required Skills:

  • 5+ Years of Commercial Credit experience with an emphasis on commercial loan underwriting

  • Ability to communicate effectively throughout the organization and build strong partnerships with Relationship Managers, Credit Risk, SAG, credit support and leadership

  • Strong decision making skills coupled with the ability to communicate rationalization of loan decisions both in verbal and written form

  • Attention to detail, accuracy and overall data quality

  • Ability to execute in a high paced environment with close monitoring of metrics of production, cycle time, renewal timeliness and quality metrics

  • Strong understanding of the end to end credit process

  • Proficiency in technology, including Microsoft applications

  • Minimum of a BA/BS degree required; Finance, Accounting or Economics majors are preferred.
