Merchant Portfolio Officer

Job Description:

The Merchant Portfolio Officer (MPO) is the primary provider of dedicated coverage to select, higher complexity clients in the BB, GCB and GCBK portfolios. The client portfolios could be specific to an LOB or an industry vertical. MPOs are aligned with MSOs and lead client call planning and preparation, facilitate client implementation processes, lead on-going sales routines with established clients (ex. Merchant reviews). The MPOs primary objective is to Partner with the Merchant Sales Officer and bank client teams by proactively developing an account plan for each client within assigned portfolio. MPOs must understand and analyze industry trends and effectively position products and services to drive operational efficiencies to help mine cross sales opportunities. They must strategically influence and guide decision making within the clients organization as well as prepare and submit applicable implementation/projects and provide oversight of critical projects to ensure overall client satisfaction.

•MPO’s are responsible for mining and deepening merchant solutions for existing relationships, driving SPR and client satisfaction

• Assist in contract renewals and pricing
• Identify and communicate operational efficiencies to clients for process including interchange
• Proficient in CashPro and can take the lead on demonstrating the platform’s Merchant capabilities
• Partner closely with IA to ensure tight onboarding process
• Deep understanding of a client’s commerce ecosystem and the ability to consult on ways to integrate BofAs product solutions
• Ability to appropriately drive solutions per relationship across the merchant catalog set
• Work across a matrixed coverage organization to achieve objectives - working with MSO, banker and TSO to uncover opportunities, advise in the best way to target prospects and close new business
• Provide strategic guidance to help clients stay ahead of merchant trends and be committed to delivering the solutions that make commerce easier

Required Skills

  • Consultative sales experience with Business Banking, Large Corporate, and/or Commercial Banking clients
  •  5-10 years of Core Acquiring (Credit/Debit) industry experience
  • 5-10 years of direct sales experience
  •  5-10 years of sales/portfolio management experience, including C-level sales.
  • Expert knowledge of POS (integrated/standalone) payment interfaces
  •  Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to cultivate and strengthen client relationships with senior business and IT staff member
  •  Ability to technically consult with C-level executives within client environment
  • Demonstrated experience working with 3rd party VAR’s / Integrators and payment gateways
  •  Understanding of PC payment applications, merchant services industry applications, accounting systems, competition/competitive landscape in the payments industry, enterprise resource planning systems (ERP), data security (PCI), file formatting, and data transmissions
  •  Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision toward the achievement of personal and team goals.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills, including written, oral and presentation skills.
  • Effective planning, prioritization and time management acumen.
  •  Ability to coach colleagues with less experience and/or knowledge, as necessary.
  •  Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, OneNote
  • Ability to quickly learn various sales applications

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge and experience in payments, merchant services, or related industry sales and consultation
  • Technologically savvy, comfortable with tablet and cloud based solutions Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • People management background in sales or service
