Position Description

  • Accountable for tax risk management and overseeing tax compliance for primarily HK, China, South Korea & Taiwan working closely with EY and reporting to the Head of International Tax
  • Accountable for EY service delivery on OUS model for countries covered & a SME in HK taxation; Tax adviser for countries covered to Management and FLUs, as well as Group members worldwide
  • Significant level of independent authority; will brief and escalate to level 2 - 3
  • Partner with peers and stakeholders in Tax, CFO, Executive Management, FLUs
  • Decision-maker on tax matters for countries covered with oversight from Senior Management

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform final review and sign off of GFC Finance provided and EY reviewed tax provision calculations and disclosures
  • Oversee and perform final review and approval for direct tax filings & tax payments, facilitated by EY standardized review/sign off package
  • Approve tax filings and technical advice on specified indirect taxes, including advise on issues arising from other support group’s operational processes and procedures (based on information and analysis provided by BAC@EY)
  • Decide on and direct resolution of issues escalated during return preparation process and provide final review and approval of tax technical treatment (based on information and analysis provided by BAC@EY)
  • Accountable for local implementation of transfer pricing arrangements and documentation
  • In partnership with relevant country CFOs, ensure that a proper relationship is retained with respective tax authorities; leverage the EY network to oversee tax authority audits and to negotiate the settlement of any issues arising.  Accountable for management & control of any litigation issues, including briefing external counsel and making all necessary appeals and court submissions
  • Oversee tax governance and risk management consistent with global framework;  Set local tax policies, and review tax procedures;  Make all management decisions with respect to tax matters in conjunction with the Head of International Tax
  • Accountable for tax technical advice provided to FLUs and other Support Groups – including strategic tax advice on acquisitions, disposals, restructuring and other business-related activities, tax planning
  • Oversee risk management approvals - NPRs, LEARs & other approvals as required
  • In conjunction with EY, ensure effective tax legislation regulatory intake processes (identification and dissemination)
  • Develop and approve tax policy & planning initiatives with significant impact in conjunction with the Head of International Tax
  • Liaise with senior internal stakeholders to understand business and support group developments & reorganizations and direct and oversee EY on appropriate responses
  • Represent BAML at industry body forums and perform advocacy services as required, including industry submissions and liaising with tax authorities
  • Subject to the approval of the Head of International Tax, obtain vendor management approvals and act as vendor management executive where required for non EY services

Skills and competencies

Qualifications and experiences

  • Tax or Accounting qualified.   Significant level of post qualification experience in home country and International tax (minimum 8 to 15 years’ experience).  Proficient in Microsoft office
