Senior Software Engineer

Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join the Global Banking & Markets AI and Data Science Technology team.   They will work on all aspects of data management in a multi-tenant environment, which includes overall architecture, design and develop architectural components as higher order services for data management including ingestion, data quality, distributed compute, record management and data security.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal data transformation and loading of data.
  • Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.
  • Create data tools for analytics and data scientist team members that assist them in building and optimizing our product into an innovative industry leader.
  • Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems.

Skills

  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
  • Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets.
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets.
  • Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management.
  • A successful history of manipulating, processing, and extracting value from large disconnected datasets.
  • Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable ‘big data’ data stores.
  • Proficient understanding of distributed computing principles
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience in agile methodologies, test driven development, continuous integration and continuous deployment.

Requirements:

  • We are looking for a candidate with 5+ years of experience in a Data Engineer role. They should also have experience using the following software/tools:
    • Experience with big data tools: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Impala, Hive, Hbase, Kudu etc.
    • Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases, including Postgres
    • Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools: Azkaban, Luigi, Airflow, etc.
    • Experience with stream-processing systems: Flink, Spark-Streaming, etc.
    • Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, C++, Scala, etc.
    • Bachelors or Master degree in a relevant technical field; e.g. computer science, information management etc.
    • At least 4 years’ experience in financial services, with knowledge of capital markets, commercial banking products and business processes.

Responsible for enabling analysis, modeling, and optimization through producing information products. Involved in the research and development efforts. Primary requirement is not related to traditional programming or systems analysis skills, but to the ability to support the creation of sophisticated, value-added analytic systems that support revenue generation, risk management, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, portfolio management, and research. These systems must overcome issues of complex data (e.g., VLDB, multi-structured, "big data", etc.) as well as deployment of advanced techniques (e.g., machine learning, text mining, statistical analysis, etc.) to deliver insights. This role often possesses a degree in hard science or another heavy quantitative business or social discipline. Able to work independently or in a team on complex projects.
