Network Computing Group Mainframe Technologies Intern Program

Bank of America Intern Program

The Bank of America Intern Program is designed to provide students with mainframe technology experience as it applies to banking. Students are given a true associate experience, as internships mirror full-time positions and include goal-setting and a formal review process. Interns are required to work 40-hour weeks for 10 -12 weeks between the months of May and September. On-the-job training, mentoring relationships, and networking opportunities are provided for all interns.


Our Business

The Mainframe Technologies group is a division within the Network Computing Group. The Mainframe Technologies group provides continuous operating, computing and network services for the Bank of America consumer, commercial, global and wholesale banking groups. Mainframe Build is responsible for the transaction, database and message queue managers, mainframe operating systems and logical network services. Mainframe Technologies teams include CICS, DB2, IMS, WMQ, Z/OS Communications and Operating System Services.


Overview

Bank of America has created a Mainframe Technologies College program to develop its next generation of mainframe technicians. As a part of the program, we have a summer intern program which gives students hands-on mainframe experience in a summer job and provides a potential pathway to a fulltime associate position within the Mainframe Technologies College program.

Candidate will be assigned to a specific Mainframe technology team or rotate among several teams during the internship. The candidate will be mentored by a senior technician and be exposed to the following:

  • Design, develop, implement and enhance transaction, database, communication and operating systems in support of business goals.
  • Analyze, track, and troubleshoot performance of assigned system to ensure that all information processing and delivery requirements are met.
  • Support the configuration, implementation, administration, monitoring and ongoing maintenance of assigned system.
  • Provide project management support relating to process improvement in technology.
  • Provide analytical support for data collection and measurements
  • Participate in design, development and implementation of complex applications, often using new technologies.

Qualifications

Rising College seniors with mainframe technology education may be eligible for a summer internship. The ideal candidate exhibits a strong drive for results; enjoys teamwork and challenging work assignments. Excellent organization and communication skills required.

The candidate will be educated in basic IBM Mainframe technology. Conceptual knowledge of some of the following technologies: CICS, DB2, IMS, WMQ, Z/OS Operating Systems as well as ability to code JCL and a basic computer language are requirements. Candidates must be enrolled in a full-time degree program, pursuing a major in Computer Science or Information Technology.

Opportunities may exist in Addison, Texas and Richmond, Virginia


Full-Time Opportunities

Rising seniors who meet or exceed internship performance expectations are eligible to receive a full-time offer of employment following their internships. Full-time NCG hires will participate in the Network Computing Group Mainframe Technologies Program, a 2-3 year program; within the Mainframe organization in the Network Computing Group.
